Sergio Mitre has been dealt a 50-game suspension for violating the MLB drug policy, according to ESPN.

Our View:He had a trace amount of androstenedione in his system, which was believed to be a legal supplement bought at GNC. Mitre will serve the suspension while rehabbing from elbow surgery in the first few months of the 2009 campaign.

Sergio Mitre has signed a split contract with the Yankees, according to MLB.com. The Major League portion is for $1.25 million, and there's a club option for 2010.

Our View:Eight MLB teams had shown interest in Mitre, even though he may not be ready until midseason following Tommy John surgery in July.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that the Florida Marlins have released Sergio Mitre who underwent Tommy John surgery in July.

Our View:The Marlins figure to mix up the roster quite a bit this offseason with 18 arbitration eligible players. Mitre's head was the first to roll. He could miss all of next season as well.

Our View:Not only will Mitre miss the rest of this season, it's a distinct possibility he could miss all of next season as well.

Sergio Mitre, who is recovering from a strained right forearm, threw batting practice on Friday at the Marlins' spring training facility, according to the Miami Herald. He threw 20 pitches during the session, which was his first involving hitters since sustaining the injury in spring training.

Our View:The Marlins are targeting an August return for Mitre, who went 5-8 as a starter in 2007.
