Player Notes
March 13, 2010
Sergio Mitre allowed five hits and three runs in four innings of work against the Tigers on Saturday.

Our View:In other words, nothing that will make the Yankees strongly consider him for their fifth starter's job.
March 7, 2010
Sergio Mitre pitched well against the Twins on Sunday, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View:On one hand, it was against a split-squad Minnesota team, though that certainly didn't help most of the Yankees other pitchers, as Chad Gaudin, Kei Igawa and D.J Mitchell all struggled. Mitre has an outside shot at the No. 5 starting spot in New York if the Yankees opt to place both Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes in middle relief or setup roles.
January 6, 2010
Sergio Mitre has avoided salary arbitration with the Yankees by signing an $850,000, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Our View:Incentives could push the deal closer to $1 million. Many believed the Yankees were going to part ways with Mitre and his 6.79 2009 ERA, so this deal is certainly a win for the ex-Marlin.

SI.com is reporting that the New York Yankees have declined the $1.25 million option on pitcher Sergio Mitre. Mitre went 3-3 with a 6.79 ERA in 12 appearances with the team last season.

Our View:Mitre did not have a good showing in 2009, as he sat the first 50 games for a violation of the substance abuse policy, and he was pretty bad when he finally got on the field. Mitre is now eligible for salary arbitration after this move.
September 21, 2009
Sergio Mitre has been removed from the Yankees' starting rotation, according to The Journal News. Chad Gaudin will replace him for the final two weeks of the regular season.

Our View:Finally. In 11 appearances (nine starts) for the Yanks this season, Mitre is 3-3 with a 6.88 ERA. He could make their postseason roster as a long-reliever, but it doesn't seem likely at this point.
