Chad Gaudin threw two scoreless innings against the Pirates on Wednesday, allowing one hit and no walks. He fanned one as the Yankees won 6-3.

Our View:Gaudin, signed to a one-year deal this offseason, is off to a good start in his pursuit of the Yankees' fifth rotation spot. With Joba Camberlain now projected as a reliever Gaudin could lock down the job this spring. He'll likley have Phil Hughes nipping at his heels though.
January 18, 2010
Chad Gaudin has agreed to a one-year deal with the Yankees, according to team writer Bryan Hoch's twitter page.

Our View:Gaudin will compete for a spot at the back of New York's rotation in spring training. He held a 3.43 ERA over 42 innings with the Yankees in 2009.
December 27, 2009
The Yankees are believed to be trying to trade both Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:They want to go with either Phil Hughes or Joba Chamberlain as their fifth starter next season. Gaudin, who posted a 3.43 ERA in 42 innings with the Yankees in 2009, would seem to have more value.
December 22, 2009
An undisclosed rival executive believes that Chad Gaudin could be the Yankees' fifth starter in 2010, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:That would potentially push Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes to the bullpen, hence limiting their fantasy value. Rosenthal thinks that if the Yankees do decide to use both of those pitchers in that role, they would more likely go with Alfredo Aceves as the No. 5 starter though.
October 8, 2009
If the Yankees advance to the American League Championship Series, Chad Gaudin will likely start game four, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Gaudin didn't have to deal with any "Joba rules" this year, and somehow, after pitching terribly for the Padres for the first half of the season, pitched very well in the AL East gauntlet. Perhaps most puzzlingly of all, his new Yankee Stadium ERA this season was 3.04 in 26.2 innings, while his ERA in the pitcher-friendly Petco Park was 6.30 in 40 innings. That being said, we'll see how he fares in potential Boston or Los Angeles ALCS matchups.
