Our View:The Nationals may ask for Barton if the Athletics pursue a trade for Nick Johnson.

On Tuesday, the A's announced that Daric Barton underwent successful surgery on his right hip, according to the A's official web site.

Our View:Barton had a terrible year at the plate in his first full season. The converted first baseman only hit .226 with nine home runs.

A's first baseman Daric Barton is thinking about playing winter ball in Mexico, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I'll go early or not at all," he said.

Our View:Barton has had a putrid year, hitting .218 and disappointing his team and fantasy owners alike. He has just 29 extra-base hits in 435 at-bats, leading to a paltry .338 slugging percentage.

Our View:Barton has been one of the single most disappointing players in all of fantasy baseball. Touted as a contact hitter who will develop power, Barton has a lowly .213 batting average and nine home runs.
