Rangers rookie David Murphy might have been the front-runner for the AL rookie of the year before he injured his knee and the Dallas Morning News is reporting that the Rangers are shutting him down for the rest of the season.

Our View:The Rangers do not want to rush Murphy back too soon and make sure he is ready for offseason workouts.
September 10, 2008
David Murphy got a cortisone shot in his ailing knee, and the team thinks it is possible for him to return before the season is out, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:Murphy has been a bright spot for fantasy owners this season, but do not count on him returning, as he still has not been able to do any running.
September 5, 2008
David Murphy, sidelined with a sprained ligament in his knee, may be in danger of being shut down for the remainder of the season. Although he has participated in batting practice, doctors have not cleared him to do any running.

Our View:Murphy was a pleasant surprise in the fantasy world this season, but it appears the end may be near. Earlier in the day Ian Kinsler opted for season-ending surgery. Murphy is not in need of surgery, only rest.

After thinking that Rangers outfielder David Murphy would be ready to play on September 1, that plan is on hold and he likely will not be able to go until the end of the week, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View:Murphy had a sprained right knee that he is still recovering from. He has been a productive player for fantasy owners, with 15 home runs, 74 RBI along with chipping in seven stolen bases.
August 27, 2008
Texas outfielder David Murphy is ready to come off the disabled list by September 1st, but the Rangers are waiting until he's 100 percent, so it could be longer than that, according to MLB.com. However, Murphy did put his injured right knee through a strenuous test on Wednesday before the Rangers game with the Royals, and everything went well.

Our View:Murphy, who is sidelined with a strained ligament in his right knee, did a variety of baserunning simulation drills, including rounding first base on a single, going from first to third, and tagging up on a sacrifice fly. Murphy was expected to be sidelined from between two and four weeks. It's now been three weeks and his return is near. The Rangers just want to make sure.
