Pitching prospect Tim Stauffer is out for the season, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. A surgeon repaired the Triple-A hurler's torn labrum on Friday, and he will need another year to fully recover.

Our View:The former first round draft pick had shoulder problems dating to 2003. Within a month after the Padres drafted him (in 2003), Stauffer told them his shoulder was ailing. The Padres still decided to sign him, though for nearly $2 million less than their original offer. At the time, they also said he might need shoulder surgery. He held no fantasy value for this season.

Tim Stauffer has been shut down due to a shoulder ailment, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Specifics on what's bothering him weren't available, but he won't make his scheduled start against the Dodgers in China next weekend. Justin Germano will replace Stauffer on the mound for that game.

The Padres optioned Tim Stauffer to Triple-A Portland on Monday. He had a 21.13 ERA in two starts with San Diego.

Our View:Fifteen hits and 18 earned runs in just under eight innings is brutal. He'll be lucky to get a September call-up.

The Padres optioned Tim Stauffer to Triple-A Portland Wednesday. Stauffer was blasted for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in a spot start Sunday.

Tim Stauffer was recalled Saturday and will start Sunday at Houston, the AP reports. Stauffer was considered one of San Diego's top prospects a year ago but he's been all over the place since then. Keep your expectations low; he's only starting here because Chris Young was forced to the disabled list. Stauffer has a 5.34 ERA in 97 2/3 innings at Portland this year.
