Player Notes
September 6, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer went eight innings for the win on Saturday against the Marlins. He gave up three runs, all on home runs, while striking out seven. He is now 12-6 on the season.

Our View:Wellemeyer has been a pleasant surprise this season if only for the fact that he has hurled 168.1 innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.74 on Saturday.
August 31, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer took a tough loss on Sunday. He held the Astros to four hits and one run over seven innings, and his teammates were unable to score. Wellemeyer sunk to 11-6. He went 3-2 with a 2.58 ERA over six starts in August.

Our View:Wellemeyer continues to have a solid season and is a decent back-end option for fantasy owners in mixed leagues. Dave Duncan has worked wonders here.
August 20, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer won his third game in as many starts, running his record to 11-4 as the Cardinals beat Pittsburgh 11-2. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out five.

Our View:Wellemeyer has been pitching much better as of late after he went through a rough patch toward the beginning of July. He is back to being someone fantasy owners can depend on.
August 14, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer earned his tenth victory of the season with a solid outing as the Cardinals downed the Marlins 3-0. Wellemeyer went 7.2 innings and did not allow a run while allowing three hits and striking out three.

Our View:Wellemeyer's ERA drops to 3.79, and he has won his last two decisions. Consider him someone that can be useful in mixed leagues.
August 9, 2008
The Cardinals enjoyed a rather productive day at Wrigley this afternoon, putting a convincing 12-3 win on the board versus the Cubs. For St. Louis, the work of RHP Todd Wellemeyer served as the catalyst for success, pitching 6 2/3 innings to allow three runs (all earned) on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts on the day.

Our View:Wellemeyer gets the win and moves to 9-4 on the season, sitting with a 4.01 ERA. He had suffered three consecutive no-decision finishes coming in, allowing just five combined runs over those starts. Today he gets the spoils of victory and looks to be improving as an arm to fear.
