Player Notes
July 2, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer may have saved his rotation spot Thursday night, pitching 7.1 effective innings against the San Francisco Giants, as the Cardinals won 5-2 in St. Louis.

Our View:Unfortunately for Wellemeyer, one good start is just one good start. He still has a string of bad outings to atone for, and isn't a great option for spot starting.
June 22, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer was roughed up for five earned runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings in Monday's 6-4 loss at the Mets. He issued four walks with two strikeouts.

Our View:Wellemeyer now has a losing record at 6-7, and his ERA climbs to 5.53. He is 1-3 over five starts in June, after going 4-2 in May. He will be an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the mound.
June 12, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer has told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that his fastball is topping out 5-6 MPH slower than it did in 2008.

Our View:This would certainly explain his greatly regressed numbers. Until he re-finds those lost MPHs, he probably shouldn't be finding a place on your roster.
June 11, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer was largely ineffective again for the Cardinals on Thursday, surrendering 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings as the Cards won 6-5. He gave up two home runs and struck out only one.

Our View:After a solid 2008 season in which he finished with a 3.71 ERA, Wellemeyer has regressed in 2009 and is no longer much of a fantasy option. If you think he has a good matchup, he could be an acceptable spot starter, but he is no longer worth a roster spot at this point.
June 6, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer struggled for the second straight start on Saturday as the Cardinals fell to the Rockies 10-1. Wellemeyer went seven innings and allowed six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six. His record now sits at 5-6 on the year.

Our View:It looked like Wellemeyer had turned it around after a slow start, but he has regressed in his last two starts. His fantasy value is slipping, and he is probably only an option in NL-only leagues unless he turns it around again.
