Player Notes
May 14, 2008
The Pirates managed to find just four hits in their bats this evening as they suffered the 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, all but dominated by RHP Todd Wellemeyer in earning his fourth win of the season. Wellemeyer pitched seven innings, giving up a lowly one run on an even lowlier two hits. He walked three, struck out five, and did so on 11 fly outs mixed with five grounders.

Our View:Since hitting May, Wellemeyer is pitching as well as any hurler in the game. Including this evening, he has allowed just six runs (four earned) on 13 hits combined.
May 4, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer improved to 3-1 with a victory against the Cubs on Sunday night. He held the rival to three hits and two runs over five innings. Wellemeyer mixed in four walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:That's three straight starts with four runs allowed, and Wellemeyer is beginning to lose his early shine. Yes, he won on Sunday, but we still don't trust him in anything other than NL-only leagues.
April 28, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer allowed only two hits in his last three innings, but struggled through the first three giving up four runs on five hits. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in the 4-3 loss to the Reds.

Our View:Wellemeyer had been 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA in his first two starts at home this season.
April 23, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer hurled six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk to the Pirates.

Our View:Wellmeyer's ERA rose to 3.77 in this outing, and one would have to think that he would struggle to keep his ERA below 4.00 given his career line. Still, he bears watching in NL Only leagues where he could be a difference maker.
April 23, 2008
Todd Wellemeyer will be aiming for a 3-0 start when he takes the mound against the Pirates tonight, according to MLB.com. He also holds a 3.24 ERA, with 26 strikeouts over 25 innings.

Our View:He is off to a strong start, and will continue to make a case for himself to remain in the Cardinals' rotation when their injured starters begin coming back. He has worked 20 innings over his last three starts, and is worth targeting for your fantasy rotation, as he also holds a 1.08 WHIP.
