Player Notes
September 14, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer was roughed up for six earned runs on nine hits over four innings in Monday's 11-6 win over the Marlins at Busch Stadium. He had one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View:Wellemeyer struggled tonight, but the Cardinals scored enough runs for him to end the night with a no-decision. He was making a spot-start in place of John Smoltz (shoulder tendinitis).

As expected, Todd Wellemeyer was activated off the 15-day disabled list by the Cardinals on Thursday.

Our View:He will join the team's bullpen. In 23 appearances this season (20 starts), Wellemeyer is 7-9 with a 5.57 ERA.

MLB.com reports that right-hander Todd Wellemeyer (elbow) is set to rejoin the Cardinals on Thursday.

Our View:Wellemeyer, out since August 4th with inflammation in his pitching elbow, got rocked in a rehab start on Monday but fared much better in Wednesday's stint. He allowed just one hit and struck out three in 1.2 innings. The Cardinals plan on giving him a day or two of rest before activating him. When he gets the call he will head to the bullpen and likely be used only in mop-up situations.

According to the Twitter page of MLB.com's B.J.Rains, Cardinals' pitcher Todd Wellemeyer got rocked in his rehab appearance for Triple-A Memphis on Monday. Wellemeyer lasted only 0.2 innings and allowed four runs on four hits.

Our View:Any thought that Wellemeyer would come back to the Cards' rotation for the last month of the season looks like it was answered last night. Wellemeyer will have trouble cracking the postseason roster for the Cards, and his tenure is St. Louis will be up after this season.
August 29, 2009
Todd Wellemeyer (elbow inflammation) will pitch out of Triple-A Memphis' bullpen this Monday and Wednesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Wellemeyer said that he understands he and his 5.67 ERA will likely not be back in the Cardinals rotation this season, but that he is "elated" to be pitching in relief and that he'll do "anything it takes" to get the team to the playoffs.
