The Cubs and Angel Guzman have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $825,000 deal, according to the Chicago Daily Herald.

Our View:Guzman had easily the best season of his career last year, posting a 2.95 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 61 innings in middle relief. You should be seeing plenty of him in the seventh and maybe even eighth innings in 2010.

According to Gordon Wittenmyer on Twitter, Cubs reliever Angel Guzman has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season.

Our View:Guzman underwent an MRI on Tuesday that revealed a strained right triceps muscle. He went 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA over 55 appearances for the season.

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Cubs' reliever Angel Guzman hasn't pitched since last Monday due to a recurrence of the right triceps strain that put him on the DL earlier this season. Guzman could be ready to pitch again in the Cubs' current series against the Brewers.

Our View:It looks like Guzman will probably be available tonight, but Lou Pinella will probably be cautious with him. He is a solid relief pitcher, and it's not out of the question that he could see a save opportunity or two before the season is out.

As expected, the Cubs activated Angel Guzman (triceps) from the DL on Monday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Guzman had been one of the better middle relievers in the game before landing on the DL and there's no reason to think the hurler won't continue to be going forward, and thus he does have decent value in leagues that roster middle relievers.

Angel Guzman is set to be activated from the 15-day disabled list, according to the Arlington Heights Daily Herald.

Our View:He is expected to rejoin the team on Monday. Guzman has had an excellent 2009, posting a 2.53 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 32 innings pitched. He only has six holds, but is a decent option in leagues with middle relievers.
