Angel Guzman has opted to undergo surgery to repair the torn ligament in his right shoulder, according to MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Our View:As expected, Guzman will miss the 2010 season, and John Grabow could serve as the Cubs' setup man in Guzman's absence. No word yet on exactly when Guzman's surgery will take place.
March 6, 2010
Angel Guzman has been diagnosed with a significant ligament tear in his right shoulder that could threaten his career, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Guzman may end up opting for surgery, which would put a premature end to his 2010 season and make for a difficult rehab period to even come back by 2011. He could also decide against surgery, in which case it would take from four to six weeks before knowing whether he could even try and pitch. With Guzman likely out of their 2010 plans, the Cubs could turn to John Grabow as their eight-inning man to set up Carlos Marmol.
March 5, 2010
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune tweeted that Angel Guzman may be "cooked" for 2010 due to his shoulder issue.

Our View:Skipper Lou Piniella also noted that Guzman seems to be jinxed. He would be missed in Chicago's bullpen, but his fantasy value is limited.
March 5, 2010
In a serious blow to the Cubs bullpen, Angel Guzman is slated to undergo an MRI on his right shoulder on Friday and the team is "not optimistic," according to beat writer Carrie Muskat.

Our View:He has been dealing with right shoulder discomfort that has not been getting better. Shoulder injuries and pitchers together almost never equal anything but awful news. Stay tuned.
March 1, 2010
Angel Guzman fired 30 pitches from 60 feet Monday, according to MLBblogs.com.

Our View:Guzman is improving in his recovery from right shoulder discomfort, but won't throw from a mound until next week. He will compete for a setup role if healthy, and could hold value in leagues that award points for holds.
