Player Notes
March 10, 2010
Gerald Laird went 1-for-3 with a grand slam off Joba Chamberlain in today's 9-8 preseason loss to the Yankees.

Our View:Laird could be a serviceable catcher for Detroit in 2010, but only until Alex Avila is ready to take over. Laird had a big day, but his fantasy value remains limited.
January 19, 2010
The Tigers avoided arbitration with catcher Gerald Laird on Tuesday, according to the Detroit Free Press. Financial terms are currently unavailable.

Our View:Laird was fantastic behind the plate last season, leading the AL in throwing out runners with a 40.4 success rate. He also led the league with a .997 fielding percentage and 78 assists, but was a dud at the plate, hitting just .225 with four homers and 33 RBI.
December 31, 2009
Gerald Laird was arrested following a skirmish in the lounge area of the US Airways Center in Phoenix, according to the Associated Press. His young brother Brandon Laird was also involved in the incident.

Our View:Gerald Laird was charged with assault, and his brother was cited for disorderly conduct. The fight occurred during a game between the Phoenix Suns and Boston Celtics. It is uncertain if either baseball player will face further discipline.
November 10, 2009
Gerald Laird is reportedly on the Tigers' trading block, according to FOX Sports.

Our View:Laird will turn 30 later this week, and only batted .225 in 2008 - while raking in $2.8MM. It would not be hard for Detroit to find a comparable option for less money.
July 1, 2009
Gerald Laird went 1-for-3 with a double, and recorded the Tigers' lone RBI in Wednesday's 5-1 loss at Oakland.

Our View:Laird notched Detroit's only RBI in Tuesday's 7-1 loss to Oakland as well. He should still only be considered for deeper fantasy leagues.
