Heath Bell was credited with a blown save on Thursday by allowing a runner put on base by Cla Meredith to score. Still, Bell allowed no earned runs to score and lowered his ERA to 2.29.

Our View:Bell hasn't come anywhere near close to matching his K/9 total of last year (9.80) with a 5.78 mark this year, but he has still been successful this year and has in fact pitched much better than the team's closer, Trevor Hoffman.

Heath Bell extended his scoreless streak to 16.1 innings on Sunday. He served up one hit to the Dodgers but kept them off the scoreboard. Bell appears to be the top option in the bullpen outside of the struggling Trevor Hoffman.

Heath Bell, one of the NL's best setup men last season, is ready to prove that last year wasn't a mirage, this according to MLB.com. "I just went out there and if we needed one inning, I gave us one inning. ... If it was two innings, I did that," he said. Bell was fifth in games (81) while posting the second most holds in the NL with 34 as he was a workhorse that led NL relievers with 92.2 IP. If Trevor Hoffman experiences any issues with his arm, Bell would be the man to step in to the void marking him as a fantastic late round pick up.

Our View:ell emerged as one of the top setup pitchers in the National League in 2007, appearing in the fifth-most games (81) in the league while compiling the second-most holds (34) in the NL and the most innings pitched by a reliever (92 2/3).

With Scott Linebrink struggling, Heath Bell will handle the setup duties for the Padres for the time being, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Bells holds a 2.06 ERA and 0.97 WHIP on the year, along with 57 Ks in 56 2/3 innings.

Heath Bell continued his excellent start to the year by working 1 2/3 perfect innings against the Diamondbacks Thursday. He's allowed just four hits and no walks in 10 1/3 scoreless innings this year, and he's also struck out 10.
