Tom Glavine said he is just a bit sore after having season-ending elbow surgery last week, according to the AP. The veteran is still unsure whether he'll return next season. "We've got a good five weeks here for me to rehab and get a good sense of how I'm recovering and what it looks like," Glavine said. "Then I think we will all have a better idea."

Our View:There wasn't as much damage in Glavine's elbow as initially though, as the doctor performing the surgery only had to clean out scar tissue and sew together a small gap that had formed in his tendon.

Tom Glavine's surgery on Thursday to repair a partially torn flexor tendon in his left elbow and to clean out his shoulder was a success, according to MLB.com.

Our View:"We were pleased by the report that there was not a significant injury to the elbow or shoulder that would prevent Tom from pitching in the future," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. This is great news for Glavine as his career shouldn't be over.
August 20, 2008
Tom Glavine will not need ligament replacement surgery on his left elbow, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He will still need surgery, but only to fix his torn flexor tendon. This means it is possible he could suit up next season. “Still not sure about next year but this will give me a chance,” he said.

Our View:Had Glavine needed surgery on his elbow ligament, his career would have been over. As it is, he will need about five months to recover.
August 19, 2008
Tom Glavine will undergo an MRI on Wednesday that will determine the extent of the injury to his left elbow, according to Braves.com.

Our View:If the injury is just a torn flexor tendon, Glavine will undergo surgery the next day, and he could be back in 2009. If there is ligament damage to the elbow, his career is likely over.

Tom Glavine is expected to undergo surgery to repair his left elbow, and the operation could end his career. He hopes the procedure will only result in a repair of the torn flexor tendon. If Glavine needs to replace his ligament, he would call it a career. "I think there’s a very low percentage that there might be something wrong with my ligament," he tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "And if there was, honestly, I’d leave it alone and I’d be done." Glavine will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday.

Our View:Glavine's future will remain up in the air until the middle of next week. Even if the surgery is relatively minor, there's no guarantee he'll return in 2009. Glavine says he only wants to pitch for the Braves next season.
