The Cubs acquired Neal Cotts from the White Sox Thursday in exchange for David Aardsma and minor league pitcher Carlos Vasquez, according to the AP. Cotts posted a 5.17 ERA in 70 games with the White Sox in 2006, one year removed from his dominant 2005 campaign in which he held a 1.94 ERA in 69 appearances.

Neal Cotts picked up his first save of the season against the Angels on Sunday, throwing a scoreless ninth while striking out one. Cotts was used to close out the game instead of Bobby Jenks because left-handed hitters Garret Anderson and Darin Erstad were due up in the ninth.

Because of Bobby Jenks' recent struggles, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has left open the possibility that Neal Cotts could work as the closer, according to the Chicago Tribune. Guillen said that Jenks would keep his job as long as he threw strikes. With Dustin Hermanson battling back problems, Cotts appears to be next in line.
