Player Notes

Cole Hamels allowed five runs in five innings in the Phillies 6-3 loss to the Mets. The lefty saw his record fall to 12-9.

Our View:This was Hamels' worst start since the end of May. His record is deceiving, and he should have many more wins than he does. Nonetheless, fantasy owners are still reaping the rewards of his ERA, WHIP and strikeouts.

The Phillies confirmed that Cole Hamels will start on four days' rest against the Mets on Sunday, according to Phillies.mlb.com.

Our View:With the division possibly on the line, this will be a great duel between each club's best pitcher, Johan Santana vs. Cole Hamels.

Cole Hamels tossed a great game against the Washington Nationals, hurling 7.1 innings of shutout ball while striking out six.

Our View:So it was against the offensively challenged Nationals, but that still doesn't change things. He picked up his 12th win of the year (and should have a lot more), and his third decision in a row.

Cole Hamels, who would be on normal rest for Sunday's showdown with the Mets on ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball," could miss the game if he throws over 100 pitches tonight against the Nats. The Phillies team website reports, that starting Sunday and then Sept. 12 against Milwaukee would give Hamels five straight starts on four days' rest, something he hasn't done since last season.

Our View:Dubee and manager Charlie Manuel are considering Hamels and J.A. Happ. Sunday's starter is listed as "TBA," an indication that it won't be Kyle Kendrick and the staff simply won't know until after tonight's game.

The Phillies are thinking about juggling their rotation so that pitcher Cole Hamels can face the Mets on Sunday, according to Phillies.com.

Our View:Hamels is slated to go on Tuesday, and his regular turn would be Sunday, but the team has an off day, and someone would have to be skipped for Hamels to go against the Mets. It is probably a good idea for Philadelphia to start their best pitcher against the team they are battling for the division, so look for Hamels to get the green light against New York.
