Player Notes
November 20, 2008
Jeremy Hermida is on the Phillies' radar, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View:He is being considered as a replacement for the Phillies if outfielder Pat Burrell departs as a free agent. The Cubs, Rays, and Brewers are among the other clubs also interested in acquiring his services.
November 17, 2008
A number of teams, including the Cubs and Rays, are interested in acquiring the services of Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida, according to ESPN.com.

Our View:Hermida hit just .249 last season while striking out 138 times in 502 AB, but he did knock 17 balls out of the park while driving in 61 runs.
November 13, 2008
Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida is a player that the Chicago Cubs are interested in pursuing in the offseason, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:Hermida will get arbitration this year, so he would have to be moved in a trade. However, the Marlins have recently said that they want Hermida in their outfield this year, so it remains to be seen if he is available.
November 11, 2008
Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said in a press conference Tuesday that the team is ready to move forward with Jeremy Hermida as their right fielder, according to mlblogs.com. Hermida is arbitration eligible, and his name has popped up in trade rumors.

Our View:With Josh Willingham out of the picture, the Marlins' starting outfield next year figures to be Cody Ross in left, Cameron Maybin in center and Hermida in right.
October 19, 2008
Four teams have already inquired about young Marlins' outfielder Jeremy Hermida, according to FOX Sports.

Our View:If Hermida is traded, the Marlins could open the 2009 season with Cameron Maybin in center and Cody Ross in right. They also could trade for a short-term right fielder as they await the arrivals of John Raynor and Scott Cousins, both of whom finished last season at Double-A and currently are playing in the Arizona Fall League.
September 23, 2008
Jeremy Hermida hopes the Marlins will bring him back next year despite his disappointing 2008 season. "I'm sure they're going to make some moves," he said in the Palm Beach Post. "I enjoy being here. I've had a great time. If I'm back, I would love to be (back), but you never know. That's something that's out of my hands."

Our View:The Marlins have 18 arbitration-eligible players this offseason and won't bring all of them back. They could trade Hermida this offseason, though they would be doing so at roughly 25 cents on the dollar.
September 3, 2008
Jeremy Hermida went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 5-3 win over Atlanta. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View:That was his first multi-hit performance since August 10 (against the Mets), snapping an 18-game drought.
August 28, 2008
Jeremy Hermida returned to the Marlins lineup on Thursday night for the first time in five games, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Hermida had been benched for ineffective play including a .212 average and .593 OPS in August as he has failed, yet again, to live up to the hype that his talent suggest resides in his body.
August 5, 2008
The Phillies did what they could withstand the onslaught of offense from the Marlins, but it was too much, taking the 8-2 loss in disappointing fashion. The Marlins did their damage with outfielder Jeremy Hermida , going 2-for-4 with one walk to total four RBIs.

Our View:Hermida comes off seven July homers with hopes of getting his team into the playoffs. Thus far things have been tough in August, hitting just .154 over three games coming into this game, but this may get him going in the right direction.
July 26, 2008
Jeremy Hermida did fantasy owners proud today with an absolutely brilliant day at the plate, going 3-for-5 in the Marlins' 3-2 12-inning win over the Cubbies. Hermida picked up his 19th double of the season and belted a pair of homers, giving him 15 on the season. He left with two RBIs and three runs scored on the day.

Our View:He's hot. That's seven homers this month for a total of nine RBIs and 12 runs scored. If he could improve the lowly batting average (just .188 through July), he'd be as coveted as any trade target in your league today.
July 24, 2008
Jeremy Hermida was given the night off and is not in Thursday's starting lineup, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:Luis Gonzalez will roam right field in his place. Hermida was hitless in his previous two games.
July 23, 2008
Jeremy Hermida was one of the majors best hitters last year after the All-Star break hitting .340-10-36, and he hopes that a similar hot streak is in store for this season, according to MLB.com. "Last year was a great second half, and I'm trying to get something close to that."

Our View:Hermida has a long way to go if he hopes to even resemble the hitter he was in the second half last year as he is hitting just .190 over his last 16 games. Still, the talent is obviously there.
July 20, 2008
The Marlins found a way to fight through the top-shelf pitching and earnt he 3-2 win over the Phillies, giving Jeremy Hermida a chance to play hero. Hermida went 2-for-5 on the game with his 12th homer of the season, representing one of few runs scored on the day.

Our View:Hermida has fallen off the pace of promise posted last month, hitting .278 last month only to fall to .196 through July. However, he now touts four homers and six RBIs on the month and carries just eight strikeouts versus seven walks.
July 11, 2008
Jeremy Hermida hit his second homer in four games, this one a two run shot in LA.

Our View:Hermida hasn't been able to put together any consistency, but it looks like he's heating up. When he's hot, he can help out any fantasy team.
June 24, 2008
Jeremy Hermida extended his hitting to 11 games by going 1-for-2 with three walks in the Marlins loss on Tuesday.

Our View:Keep an eye on Hermida. He's riding a hot streak and many feel he has the talents to be a productive outfielder. If available, he is a solid pick-up in deep leagues.
June 22, 2008
Jeremy Hermida had two hits, including his eighth home run of the season, on Sunday for the Marlins.

Our View:Finally. Perhaps this is the streak that will propel the sweat swinging Hermida back to where he belongs, that is as a starting outfielder in mixed leagues. During the streak, Hermida has also driven in six runs in his last six games.
June 17, 2008
Jeremy Hermida had two hits on Monday, the third time in four games that he has recorded double-digit hits for the Marlins.

Our View:Three of the hits have been doubles, but his SLG still rests well below an acceptable .450 mark for a hitter who was supposed to supply a power bat for the Marlins this season, especially after a .501 mark last season.
June 14, 2008
Florida managed just three hits this evening against their interleague and in-state foe, the Tampa Bay Rays, and suffered the loss, 4-1, as a result. Only outfielder Jeremy Hermida managed to tab extra bases, going 1-for-4 with a double and one run scored.

Our View:Hermida is struggling to get action at the plate, batting just .240 for the month of June coming in. He hasn't homered since May 25th and has just six RBIs since that same game.
June 12, 2008
Jeremy Hermida went 1-for-3 on Thursday leaving his batting average at a middling .257.

Our View:Hermida has been unable to translate that sweet swing into any type of consistent production for the Marlins this year. If you've held on to him this long you might as well wait a bit longer, but if you are waiting for a breakout mirroring what he did in the second half last year (.340-10-36), you're likely going to be disappointed.
May 18, 2008
The Florida Marlins suffered a horrendous 9-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals today as outfielder Jeremy Hermida exemplified the struggles of the entire team. Hermida went 0-for-4 with two strike outs and a team-high four men left on base.

Our View:Hermida has struggled mightily for an eye at the plate, now touting 33 strikeouts versus just nine walks since April 1.
May 12, 2008
Jeremy Hermida hit his fourth home run of the season in an 9-8 loss to the Reds on Monday night.

Our View:Hermida was 2-for-4 on the night raising his average to .309. On the season the Marlins outfielder also has 19 RBI and 20 runs scored in 122 at-bats.
May 11, 2008
Jeremy Hermida went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Nationals. The outfielder is hitting .341 (14-for-41) in May.

Our View:Hermida may be inspired by the $70 million deal the Marlins handed Hanley Ramirez on Saturday. Jeremy isn't in line to make nearly that much money, but he could ask for a decent chunk of change if he can stay healthy and continue to hit over .300.
April 30, 2008
Jeremy Hermida had two hits and an RBI, along with a walk, on Wednesday night.

Our View:Hermida upped his average to .286 on the night, but he has yet to display that sweet stroke that was evident to all after the all-star break last year. The main culprit is probably health, so just hope that he remains healthy and playing because the production will come if he remains on the field.
April 22, 2008
Jeremy Hermida is not listed in the starting lineup on Tuesday. Cody Ross is taking his place in right field.

Our View:We assume the move is because the Marlins are facing southpaw Paul Maholm. Hermida doesn't hit lefties particularly well, and it's probably just a good time to give him a rest.
April 18, 2008
Jeremy Hermida had two hits on Friday night with a run scored and two RBI for the Marlins.

Our View:This was nice to see after Hermida was 0-for-7 the past two nights. Hermida figures to be a solid source of production in the counting categories if he can stay on the field long enough to accrue the AB.
April 11, 2008
Jeremy Hermida had his first big game of the young season on Friday night with two hits, both of them long balls, for the Marlins. There is little doubt that Hermida will hit, the question is will he be able to stay healthy long enough for it to matter?
April 10, 2008
Jeremy Hermida has hit safely in both of his games since coming off the disabled list. In the Marlins 4-3 win over the Nationals on Thursday night, the Florida outfielder was 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Hermida, considered a strong candidate to break out this year, is offering strong indicators in his first two games that this in fact is the case.
April 9, 2008
Jeremy Hermida, who came off the disabled list for his first game of the season, hit a two-run double in the Marlins 1-4 win over the Nationals. Needless to say it was a solid beginning for the young outfielder with a Miami barge full of talent.
April 9, 2008
As expected, Jeremy Hermida has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. He has previously been sidelined since late March with a strained left hamstring. He will resume his starting role in right field, hence replacing Luis Gonzalez.
April 8, 2008
Jeremy Hermida will be activated from the DL, according to FishStripes.com. He will be activated in time for Wednesday's game, and to make room for Hermida, outfielder Brett Carroll has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.
April 6, 2008
Jeremy Hermida is not returning to the Marlins today, but may return on Monday, according to the Sun Sentinel. He was eligible to come off of the DL on Saturday, but the team decided to keep him in Jupiter instead. He could be available in time for Monday's road opener in Washington, and Manager Gonzalez noted that Hermida didn't suffer a setback, but the hamstring wasn't there yet. He added, "He's not comfortable enough to turn it loose. We just want to make sure he's 100 percent. Right now we're not so sure."
April 3, 2008
Jeremy Hermida will play in the Jupiter Hammerheads' opener today, according to the Sun Sentinel. He is nursing a hamstring injury, and the plan is to have him play for Jupiter again on Saturday, and then join the Marlins for their finale against the Pirates.
April 2, 2008
Jeremy Hermida, on the DL with an injured left hamstring, will play a minor league game on Thursday, this according to MLB.com. Hermida also hopes to play on Friday, and if all goes well he could be activated as soon as Saturday. On just about every sleeper list this season after his strong finish last year, Hermida simply needs to stay healthy to prove he is worth a darn because talent without playing time is basically useless in fantasy baseball.
March 28, 2008
Jeremy Hermida, dealing with a tight left hamstring, played in a minor-league game Friday. The outfielder will begin the year on the DL but is expected to be ready after missing just the first four games of the season, according to MLB.com. Hermida could really break out this year, so hopefully this injury doesn't end up holding him back at all.
March 27, 2008
Jeremy Hermida is possibly headed for the disabled list, this according to the Palm Beach Post. Veteran Luis Gonzalez has a chance to extend his streak of 17 opening days in a row if Hermida isn't able to make the opening day line due to his health. Big things are expected of the Marlins outfielder, but so far injuries have gotten in the way of production. Hermida hasn't played since March 15 because of a tight left hamstring.
March 26, 2008
Jeremy Hermida took batting practice and did some light running on Wednesday morning, but he may not be ready for opening day, MLB.com reports. Hermida has been dealing with a sore left hamstring since March 15. Luis Gonzalez would start the opener if Hermida were out, which is what we expect.
March 21, 2008
The Marlins are hoping that Jeremy Hermida will be ready to play opening day, but manager Fredi Gonzalez isn't optimistic, according to the Miami Herald. Hermida is battling a sore left hammy. He is not being allowed to run but is taking part in other baseball drills. Expect Jeremy to start the year on the DL.
March 18, 2008
Jeremy Hermida is nursing a mild left hamstring strain, notes the team website. The Marlins right fielder was injured in Saturday's game against the Orioles. Hermida is hitting in the cage and told the media on Tuesday morning he's confident he will be ready for the season opener.
March 9, 2008
Jeremy Hermida has been struggling mightily at the plate this spring but could be ready to turn it around as he hit his first home run on Sunday. That was only his fourth hit in 27 at-bats.
