Jeremy Hermida and the Red Sox avoided an arbitration hearing by agreeing to a one-year deal on Tuesday. Specifics are not yet available.

Our View:The former Marlin will serve as Boston's fourth outfielder in 2010, limiting his value outside of AL-only leagues. That being said, if J.D. Drew or Mike Cameron get hurt, he could be in line for a significant number of at-bats.

Jeremy Hermida has been dealt from Florida to Boston in exchange for hurlers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez, according to Juan C. Rodriguez's (Sun Sentinel) twitter page.

Our View:Hermida has failed to perform up to high expectations over five seasons in Florida, but could benefit from a fresh start with Boston. It also gives the Sox some outfield depth just in case they do not re-sign Jason Bay.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Jeremy Hermida took batting practice on Wednesday for the first time since straining his oblique on September 3.

Our View:Hermida's recovery has been amazingly slow, but he says he'll be ready to play this weekend. He isn't likely to play more than one or two games if that is the case.

Jeremy Hermida worked out before Sunday's game and is nearing a return, according to MLB.com. Hermida has to be able to sprint and swing the bat without any pain before the team will clear him to play.

Our View:Hermida said it is only a matter of time before he is ready to go, and he expects to return to the lineup soon. If the Marlins are going to make a late run at the playoffs, they will need their full compliment of players, and that includes Hermida.

MLB.com reports that Jeremy Hermida (oblique) may be done for the season.

Our View:Hermida is simply waiting out the injury, and with the Marlins not looking playoff bound, he may not be healthy in time to get into a game. Oblique strains are tricky and hurt when you do almost anything baseball related, so we don't expect Hermida to return. Cameron Maybin will continue to start in center field in his place.
