Zack Greinke isn't in a rush to ink a long-term deal with the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star. "I'm comfortable with my pitching ability," he said, "to (the point) where I feel like I'm going to pitch (well) for a while. I don't need to get a long-term deal because I feel I'll be able to pitch (well) and earn a long-term deal when I become a free agent."

Our View:Greinke had a superb 2008 season and is a fine fantasy option even on a bad Royals squad.
September 30, 2008
Zack Greinke went 4-1 with a 2.18 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP in five starts in September to be named the club's pitcher of the month, according to the Royals Official Website.

Our View:Greinke was marvelous this season and finished on quite a role with a 2.32 ERA over his final 10 starts. He will be a top target next season, and well he should be after his solid 2008 campaign (13 wins, 183 K, 3.47 ERA).
September 24, 2008
The Kansas City Star reports that Zack Greinke will not start on Sunday as the Royals will shut him down for the season after shouldering his career-high workload. "He’s already at 80-plus innings over what he had last year," Hillman said. "That’s a lot. A good measuring tool for a young pitcher is (an increase of) 25 to 50."

Our View:Greinke improved to 13-10 by pitching seven scoreless innings Tuesday in a 5-0 victory over Detroit. It was his 23rd quality start in 32 outings and pushed his innings total to 202 1/3.
September 23, 2008
Zack Greinke shut out the Tigers for seven innings and gave up just four hits in the Royals 5-0 win.

Our View:Greinke earned his 13th victory of the season, and saw his ERA drop to 3.47. He has been an excellent option for fantasy owners all season, and figures to be so again next year.
September 18, 2008
Zack Greinke went seven scoreless innings while only allowing two hits in the Royals' 12-0 win over the Mariners on Thursday night.

Our View:Greinke won his 12th game of the year on Thursday night and he has given up three or fewer earned runs in his last seven starts.
September 13, 2008
Zack Greinke allowed three earned runs on nine hits over six innings in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Indians, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:Greinke improves to 11-10 for the season, and has allowed three or less earned runs in six straight starts.
September 7, 2008
Zack Greinke struck out eight in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Indians, and he and fellow starter Gil Meche have a combined 325 strikeouts on the season, according to the Kansas City Star. That is the most by a Royals tandem since 1997.

Our View:Kevin Appier and Jose Rosado were the duo that accomplished the feat in '97. Greinke has had a strong season for fantasy owners, despite his 10-10 record.
September 2, 2008
Royals hurler Zack Greinke picked up his tenth win of the season in the team's 5-2 win against Oakland. Grienke went seven innings, striking out eight and allowing just two runs.

Our View:Greinke had won just two games since June 30, even though he had not pitched poorly, so continue to utilize him in fantasy leagues.
August 26, 2008
The Royals let a total lack of offensive prowess and continued disappointment from the relief pitching ruin another strong performance from RHP Zack Greinke, pitching six innings to surrender one run (unearned) on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:You can review the game-by-game numbers and identify at least half a dozen starts that should have been wins for Greinke if not for lackluster relief pitching and/or unworthy offense. He is 0-2 over his last four starts, despting giving up a combined total of six earned runs over those starts.
August 21, 2008
Zack Greinke allowed five runs (one earned) on six hits over five innings in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Indians at Progressive Field, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:Greinke falls to 9-9, and is 2-4 over his last seven starts. He still has a decent 3.86 ERA and would have more wins if not for poor run support in Kansas City.
August 16, 2008
Zack Greinke held the Yankees to two unearned runs over 6.2 innings on Saturday afternoon. He served up six hits, walked two, and struck out five in the no-decision.

Our View:Grienke's ERA is 5.50 since the All-Star break and nearly that high since the end of May. He earned a lot of fantasy respect early in the year, but Zach needs a strong final six weeks to push up his 2009 value.
August 10, 2008
Zack Greinke has decided to drop his appeal of a five-game suspension, which he began serving Sunday, according to the AP. Greinke was given the suspension for hitting Nick Swisher of Chicago with a pitch in the seventh inning on August 3. Greinke said, "They said more than likely I wouldn’t beat it, so there’s kind of no point to go through with it and that more than likely it would be a waste of time. Even if you’re not guilty, the evidence is too strong against you to have a chance."

Our View:Greinke’s next scheduled start is Saturday against the Yankees and will give him six days between starts, instead of his normal four.
August 5, 2008
Zack Greinke has been suspended five games for hitting Nick Swisher after both teams had been warned in Sunday's game against the White Sox, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Although suspended for five games, Greinke should only miss one start.
August 3, 2008
Zack Greinke won his second start this week by holding the White Sox to two runs over 6.1 innings before he was ejected for throwing at a batter.

Our View:Greinke finished the game without a walk and six strikeouts as he piled up 17 K and just one free pass in two starts on the week. He could face a suspension as his HBP was deemed retaliatory. We will have to wait and see how the league rules.
August 3, 2008
The Royals will run RHP Zack Greinke to the mound to face the White Sox today, battling 24-year-old lefty Clayton Richard, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Greinke stands at 8-7 with a 3.98 ERA on the season, having lost to the White Sox the last time he faced them. Greinke is just 2-8 lifetime against Chicago with a 5.10 ERA in 16 games, 13 of which have been starts. Richard is still searching for his first big league win.
July 31, 2008
The Rangers have talked to the Royals about Zack Greinke, and Texas is apparently willing to offer multiple prospects in return, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Well, yeah, it would take several prospects to pry Greinke away from KC. The Royals would probably want one of Texas' young catchers.
July 28, 2008
Zack Greinke struck out 11 A's in 7.1 innings in Oakland on Monday. He allowed two runs on seven hits while picking up his eighth win, his first since June 24th.

Our View:Greinke had his vast arsenal in command tonight. The performance brought his ERA down to 3.98. Despite being hit hard at times this season, when Greinke is on, he is very dangerous.
July 23, 2008
Zack Greinke fell to 7-7 after allowing five runs in six innings against the Tigers.

Our View:Greinke has now gone five outings without a win, he has lost his last three decisions, and he has posted a 6.67 ERA over his last five starts to bring his ERA up to 4.06. Greinke has still had a solid season, but his effort of late is starting to seriously diminish his overall production.
July 18, 2008
Kansas City RHP Zack Greinke suffered through one of his worst outings to date, falling 9-5 to the White Sox. Greinke pitched just three innings, surrendering seven runs (all earned) on 11 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:Greinke closed June with two wins but has since suffered, going 0-2 over four starts with 15 total earned runs allowed.
July 18, 2008
Zack Greinke has passed Gil Meche as the Royals' top pitcher in the rotation, according to the Kansas City Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "We’ve got him pitching No. 1 after the All-Star break. I think, throughout the course of the season, he has been the starter who has been the most consistent for us. It made the most sense for me, because it allows our most effective starter to pitch against two different teams in our own division."

Our View:Greinke is 7-5 with a 3.48 ERA, while Meche is currently 6-9 with a 4.71 ERA. Greinke is set to start tonight against the AL Central-leading White Sox at US Cellular Field.
July 13, 2008
Zack Greinke will start the opener of the second half for the Royals, this according to the team website. "We set it up that way because we believe our most effective starting pitcher up to this point, pitching twice in the division in the first six games against Chicago and Detroit, is Greinke," manager Trey Hillman said. "So we want him pitching in our own division and starting it off." The Royals ace will be followed, in order, by Gil Meche, Brian Bannister, Luke Hochevar and Kyle Davies.

Our View:Greinke's start against the White Sox on Friday night will allow him to start against the Tigers on the following Wednesday afternoon at Kansas City.
July 10, 2008
Zack Greinke wasn't involved in the decision on Thursday night, but he still dominated the White Sox holding them to just one run over seven innings. On the night Greinke walked one while striking out eight.

Our View:Greinke deserved the win, but the offense didn't get rolling for the Royals until he was removed from the game. Through 19 starts the Royals starter owns a great 3.48 ERA that has him marked as one of the top-20 starters in the American League.
July 5, 2008
Zack Greinke worked six solid innings but was outpitched by Andy Sonnanstine as he lost for the fifth time this year. Greinke allowed just two runs in six innings with seven K, but Sonnanstine allowed no runs.

Our View:Greinke has only two wins in his last seven appearances, though the good news is that he stopped a disturbing trend of allowing the long ball after permitting nine in his last six starts.
June 30, 2008
Zack Greinke will be looking for his first career win against the Orioles when he takes the mound tonight at Camden Yards, according to MLB.com. Greinke is 0-2 over four career outings against Baltimore, with a 10.64 ERA.

Our View:Greinke is 7-4 this season with a 3.40 ERA and solid 1.25 WHIP. He has a two-game winning streak, and has only allowed four total earned runs over his last three starts. He has a poor track record against Baltimore, but should remain active in your lineups while he is pitching well.
June 27, 2008
Royals' ace Zack Greinke is the target of the Phillies and the Brewer according to Fox Sports. The note reports, and accurately, that the Royals are not interested in moving Grienke whom they control through 2010.

Our View:General Manager Dayton Moore values pitching above all and Greinke isn't going anywhere unless somebody overwhelms the Royals front office.
June 24, 2008
The Royals found success against the Rockies in interleague play this evening, putting the 7-3 win on the board with a strong outing from RHP Zack Greinke to support the cause. Greinke pitched six strong innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on nine hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts.

Our View:The win brings Greinke to a record of 7-4 on the season with an ERA of 3.40. He has surrendered more walks this month, but he continues to work late into games and gives the Royals a reasonable opportunity to win.
June 19, 2008
Zack Greinke, Ramon Ramirez and Joakim Soria combined on a two-hitter, and the Kansas City Royals completed their first three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals since 2001 with a 4-1 victory Thursday. Greinke allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings of work.

Our View:Greinke was outstanding, and after a rough three-game patch that saw him walk seven in his last start in Arizona, the Royals ace proved again that he is one of the best pitchers in the American League. The right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.33 with the performance.
June 14, 2008
Zack Greinke was a big wild in Friday night's 1-0 loss to the Diamondbacks. The right-hander allowed no runs on three hits, but walked seven batters and struck out five.

Our View:Greinke's arm and ability are at times, astounding. On more than one occasion he baffled the Arizona hitters with a low 70s breaking ball and then a 96 mph fastball that allowed him to strand runners for the first seven innings of the scoreless game.
June 8, 2008
Kansas City RHP Zack Greinke suffered his fourth loss of the season today as the Royals fell to the Yankees, 6-3. Greinke went five innings to allow four runs (all earned) on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

May 28, 2008
Zack Greinke put together a splendid effort for the Royals Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over eight innings. Unfortunately, Greinke's win went by the wayside when the Royals bullpen gave up five runs in the ninth inning to the Twins.

Our View:This was a nice rebound from Greinke's one bad start this year. His ERA now sits at 2.88 on the year.
May 18, 2008
Kansas City RHP Zack Greinke picked up his fifth win of the season today as the Royals enjoyed great offense, taking the 9-3 win over the Florida Marlins. Greinke went six innings to surrender three runs (all earned) on nine hits, walking just one and striking out five.

Our View:Greinke now carries an ERA of 2.18 and is working as one o the more reliable pitchers in the AL.
May 13, 2008
Kansas City RHP Zack Greinke left with no decision in the Royals' 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers this evening, but his efforts continue to indicate the hurler is finally coming into this own. Greinke pitched six innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:Over his last five outings, Greinke has posted one win, one loss, and three no-decisions, yet he continues to work late into games and is giving his team a chance to compete.
May 7, 2008
Zack Greinke improved to 4-1 with a solid performance against the Angels as he allowed five hits, two walks and three runs over seven innings. He also struck out eight batters.

Our View:Greinke continues to display some of the best stuff in all of baseball in what is becoming a stunning turnaround from his off-field struggles of the recent past. Keep throwing those strikes Zack.
May 7, 2008
Zack Greinke hasn’t picked up a victory in his last three starts, but that will not be his focus when he takes the mound tonight against the Angels, notes the KC Star. Greinke understands that his main focus is to come up with a “quality start” whether he gets the victory or not. What matters is the Royals win when he pitches. And Greinke has given the Royals a real chance to win in all six of his starts. His ERA is 1.47.

Our View:The Royals face the Angels and Jared Weaver tonight at the "K", and the right-hander has struggled against most of the young Royal bats. Greinke has a good chance to break his winless streak tonight.
May 1, 2008
Zack Greinke suffered his first loss of the season on Thursday, as Kansas City was edged by Texas 2-1. It was a quality outing for Greinke, as he only allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings, with no walks and nine strikeouts.

Our View:Greinke moves to 3-1 and still holds a strong ERA at 1.47. He reached his highest strikeout total of the season today, and would have remained unbeaten if not for poor run support.
May 1, 2008

Our View:Greinke is among the best pitchers in the American League in the early going, and is also proving to be among the biggest fantasy steals of 2008. He will be opposed by righty Sidney Ponson today.
April 29, 2008
Zack Greinke was named the Royals Pitcher of the Month, according to MLB.com. He is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 36 innings, with 19 strikeouts.

Our View:Greinke is among the best pitchers in the American League right now. He ranked outside the top-60 on most draft boards, and is proving to be among the biggest fantasy steals of 2008.
April 25, 2008
Zack Greinke received a no-decision in the Royals 8-4 victory over Toronto on Friday night. The Royals right-hander left the game with a 2-1 lead after seven innings but the Royals pen couldn't hold the lead. Greinke had limited the Blue Jays to four hits the first six innings, but gave up a home run to Lyle Overbay with one out in the seventh.

Our View:Greinke held the Blue Jays to five hits while striking out four and walking one continuing to make a case as the best pitcher in the American League.
April 25, 2008
Zack Greinke will look to remain unbeaten when the Royals host the Blue Jays tonight, according to MLB.com. Greinke is 3-0 with a 1.24 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.

Our View:Greinke is 1-2 with a 5.03 ERA in five career outings against the Blue Jays, but he is off to a great start this season, and should fare well in this game. Continue to start him while he's hot.
April 19, 2008
Zack Greinke allowed eight hits and four walks in just five innings on Saturday, but he limited the A's to three runs (two earned) in a no decision.

Our View:Greinke battled all day and was able to wiggle out of a couple of jams on his way to six strikeouts. The guy owns a 1.24 ERA after four starts, so we can certainly overlook today's bout of wildness.
April 15, 2008
Zack Greinke tossed a complete game against the Mariners on Monday night and allowed only five hits and one run. He walked one, struck out four, and is now 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA over three starts.

Our View:Greinke continues to amaze and remind us why we were so excited about him back in 2004. He'll obviously take some lumps eventually, but his fantasy stock jumps with every passing start.
April 9, 2008

Three pitchers in the mix are a lock to break camp as starters. Barring injury, Meche, Greinke and Bannister will make up the first three arms in the rotation.
