Adam Loewen, who missed the last five months of the 2007 season with a stress fracture in his left elbow, has been cleared to start throwing, according to the Baltimore Sun. At this point, the O's are hopefully he'll be ready for spring training next year, but even a slight setback could potentially push his return date back.

Adam Loewen, who underwent season-ending elbow surgery in mid June, is progressing well, but he won't know when he'll be able to start throwing again until August 6, according to the Baltimore Sun. At this point, the O's are still hopeful that Loewen will be ready for spring training next year.

Adam Loewen will undergo season-ending elbow surgery on Thursday, the AP reports. Loewen, who's been on the disabled list since May 4 with a stress fracture in his elbow, hoped that resting his pitching arm would enable him to return in August or September. But because the injury failed to improve, surgery became the best option because he can be ready by spring training.

Adam Loewen is expected to meet with Dr. James Andrews today in Alabama, but he's already nearly resigned to the fact that he'll need to undergo season-ending surgery on his left elbow. "When we got the CT scan back, it didn't show any huge improvements like it should have after the four or five weeks that I took off," Loewen told the Baltimore Sun. "It didn't do as much healing as I would have liked. Now, I am going to go see Dr. Andrews and he'll make his assessment and I'll decide from there." We should know officially whether or not Loewen will have surgery within the next couple of days.

The Orioles should have an update on the status of Adam Loewen Wednesday or soon after. That's the day he's expected to have his fracture left elbow examined by Dr. James Andrews, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I feel great," he said. "I'll visit Dr. Andrews and he'll go over the CT scans that we've taken this week. Chances are we'll probably do the same thing in another two weeks, take another CT scan to see how everything is going. All they pretty much say to me is it's showing signs of healing, but they can't give me a timeline as to when I can come back." He's not likely to start throwing again for a couple of weeks, making it unlikely that we'll see him pitching for the O's until at least August.

Adam Loewen, who is on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his left elbow, told the Washington Post that he will have an MRI exam in two weeks to see how much the injury has healed. He is still at least five weeks away from being able to throw.

A second opinion confirmed that Orioles starter Adam Loewen will not need surgery on the stress fracture in his left elbow, according to the Washington Post. He is going to need at least eight weeks of rest before he can commence a throwing program, but he may be able to return in August or September.

A CT scan on Adam Loewen's left elbow performed Monday showed no additional damage beyond the stress fracture that forced him to the disabled list Friday, the AP reports. Orioles VP Jim Duquette said Loewen's rehabilitation program would continue and that films of the test would be forwarded to surgeons for review. Loewen is already on the 60-day DL and won't be heard from until the second half, if at all, in Baltimore.

May 4, 2007
Adam Loewen is expected to be sidelined at least eight weeks with a stress fracture in his pitching elbow, according to the AP. An MRI exam revealed the injury. "My arm felt great in spring training," Loewen said. "Over the last couple of weeks it's been getting a little worse and a little worse. It wasn't huge pain for me, so I think in looking at it that way, recovery time won't be a huge problem. I think it will heal up fine." Loewen was placed on the disabled list, and Brian Burress is expected to start in place of the young lefty on Saturday.

Adam Loewen will have an MRI on his left forearm this weekend and probably won't start Sunday against the Indians, the Baltimore Sun reports. Long relievers Brian Burres and Jeremy Guthrie are candidates to make that start, though Burres appears to be the likely choice because of Guthrie's struggles against the Indians last weekend.

Adam Loewen was taken out of Tuesday's game against the Tigers after five innings because of a "nagging ache in his forearm," manager Sam Perlozzo told the Washington Post. Perlozzo said he didn’t think Loewen would have to miss any starts.

I wanted to go out there and throw strikes first of all; I wasn't really worried about the outcome," Loewen said. "But it turned out pretty well." Loewen also unveiled a curveball he learned from teammate Erik Bedard in the outing.
