The Diamondbacks will be cautious with Chad Qualls in spring training while coming off August surgery to repair a dislocated left kneecap, according to MLB writer Steve Gilbert's twitter page.

Our View:Qualls is not having any issues throwing and is not expected to have too many restrictions though. He should be fine to serve as the Diamondbacks' closer for opening day, barring a setback.

According to the Arizona Republic, Diamondbacks reliever Chad Qualls is expected to be fully healthy to start the season.

Our View:Qualls underwent surgery to correct a dislocated left kneecap last August, but has been throwing bullpen sessions and is apparently ahead of schedule in his recovery. If he is indeed healthy once spring training rolls around, he'll be the favorite for the closer's job in Arizona.

Chad Qualls has agreed to a deal with the Diamondbacks to avoid arbitration, according to team writer Steve Gilbert's twitter page. He will earn $4.185MM in 2010.

Our View:Qualls held a 3.63 ERA and a solid 1.15 WHIP over 52 innings in 2009 for Arizona, while nailing down 25 saves in 29 chances. He is coming off August surgery on his dislocated kneecap, but is expected to be good to go for spring training.
