The Pirates activated Ryan Doumit from the DL Wednesday. Doumit has hit .214 in just 56 at-bats this year for the Pirates because of a recurring hamstring problem. Doumit might play some behind the plate but will probably be used mostly as a backup to Xavier Nady at first base and as a pinch-hitter.

The Pirates placed Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list with a torn left hamstring that could sideline him up to two months, according to the AP. An MRI on Monday revealed a more serious tear than the one that sidelined Doumit for three weeks in April. Manager Jim Tracy said Doumit is expected to miss six to eight weeks this time. Doumit will travel to Bradenton, Fla., later this week to begin his rehab.
