Despite his current 4-for-39 slump, Ryan Doumit might make a second consecutive start at catcher today because Zach Duke is pitching for the Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Duke is one of three pitchers Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon feels Doumit "matches up well with" behind the plate. Josh Fogg and David Williams are the others.

Ryan Doumit is working with third base coach John Russell, who tutors catchers, to get as much work as a catcher as possible, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Doumit is also catching as many bullpen sessions as he can. "I don't look at this as a part-time gig," Doumit said of his stay with the Pirates. "I want to play my way into being a mainstay here."

Ryan Doumit is expected to receive a lot of playing time for the Pirates after being recalled on Saturday. "These are the days we've been waiting for here in Pittsburgh, where we have prospects coming to the big leagues who have a chance to make a positive impact on this club," said manager Lloyd McClendon. "I'm excited about [Doumit] being here." Doumit was hitting .345 with 12 home runs before being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates recalled prospect Ryan Doumit from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday to replace Ty Wigginton on the roster. Doumit was batting .345 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI before the promotion. It is likely that he will play mostly in the outfield for the Pirates even though he's been primarily a catcher in the minors.
