Doumit said, "From a player's standpoint, it would be a shame to see anybody go. We know the names that are out there, Xavier Nady and Jason Bay, and those guys are an integral part of clubhouse and the chemistry we have. Dude, to lose one of those guys would be, in my mind, a significant blow. They're big pieces of the gel that keeps this team together." Our View:Doumit has arguably been the hottest hitting catcher outside of Russell Martin of the Dodgers since returning from the disabled list. He will play all three games of Altoona's series against New Britain, and will be evaluated after that. On Tuesday, he singled in his only at-bat as a DH. He is expected to catch tonight. I'm hoping to take one more session tomorrow and then see what happens." Our View:Doumit has been on the shelf since May 13 with a fracture in his left thumb, but seemingly appears to be close to returning. Doumit said he feels only about 80% batting right-handed, which would be the side of the plate where the swing would put more stress on his ailing thumb, but he wouldn't hesitate to bat right-handed if needed. |
