The D'Backs acquired Dan Haren from Oakland Friday in exchange for Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez, according to the AP. Haren will now form a devastating 1-2 punch with Brandon Webb at the top of Arizona's rotation.

Indians GM Mark Shapiro recently had talks with Billy Beane regarding Dan Haren and Joe Blanton, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. No deal is imminent, and it would be a surprise if a deal did get done, but the Indians are looking to improve their team any way they can, whether it's with pitching or hitting.

A deal is far from imminent, but the D'Backs are expected to make a strong run at A's ace Dan Haren. Not surprisingly, Oakland GM Billy Beane is expected to ask for a lot in return for Haren, but the D'Backs are one team that has the prospects to trade, according to the Arizona Republic. Minor league outfielder Carlos Gonzalez would likely be the first player included in any deal, but Arizona may have to give up as many as four youngsters to complete a trade.

Dan Haren was named the starting pitcher for the American League for Tuesday's All Star game, according to the AP. He is 10-3 with a 2.30 ERA, the lowest mark in the AL, and has allowed more than three earned runs just once in 19 starts.

Dan Haren "felt fine" during Wednesday's workout and he is ready to pitch Saturday at Los Angeles with "no restrictions," the AP reports. Haren slipped at one point in his opening-day start and felt some pain in his right hip flexor - an area he had some problems last year - but apparently it's not something he's concerned about for now.

A's manager Bob Geren dubbed Dan Haren his opening day starter on Sunday, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I'm very excited. I kind of figured the way it was lined up that I had that game," Haren said. "I'm not going to read too much into it. (Rich) Harden obviously was very deserving. As long as we both make 34 starts, we'll all be happy at the end of the year."

Dan Haren allowed five hits in his three-inning stint Thursday, though he got away with it giving up just one run. Haren walked two and struck out two.

Dan Haren worked hard over the offseason to improve his cut fastball, according to the Contra Costa Times. He said he felt he had pretty good control of it during yesterday's exhibition outing. "It was probably my best pitch," he said. "I'm not ready to get overly excited yet, but ... I got a few swing-and-misses on it. A lot of it is trusting it, and it's hard to get that when it's crunch time in a game during the regular season. Hopefully, I can build some of that down here."
