Player Notes
July 4, 2008
Dan Haren only surrendered two earned runs on seven hits over seven innings in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Padres, with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Our View:He pitched well enough to win, but a lack of run support dropped his record to 8-5. He only allowed one earned run over his previous three starts heading into tonight, and should remain a must-start in all fantasy leagues.
July 2, 2008
Dan Haren has been named the NL Pitcher of the Month for June, according to the AP. who went 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA over 41 innings in the month, with 36 strikeouts.

Our View:Haren is 8-4 overall, with a 2.85 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, and will remain a must-start in all leagues.
June 29, 2008
Dan Haren pitched well in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins, as he only surrendered one run (not earned) on five hits over seven innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts. He ended the day with a no decision.

Our View:His no decision snapped a two-game winning streak, but fantasy owners should still be very pleased by today's performance. He has only allowed three total earned runs over his last four starts.
June 23, 2008
Dan Haren was nails for the D'Backs Monday, holding the Red Sox scoreless over seven innings while allowing just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Our View:This is the first win on the road for Haren this year. He given up just six runs in five starts this month.
June 23, 2008
Dan Haren is 0-3 in three career starts at Fenway Park. He hopes to reverse that trend tonight when he squares off against Josh Beckett.

Our View:Haren is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in his last four starts but this mathup does not bode well.
June 18, 2008
Arizona RHP Dan Haren got plenty of offensive support this evening in the Diamondbacks' 11-1 win over Oakland, but the motivation to put his old employer to the gutter ruled the night and gave Haren the drive for a top performance. Haren pitched seven innings to allow just one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Our View:Haren moves to 7-4 with an ERA of 3.26, now sitting at 2-0 over four starts this month. In that span through June, he has allowed just six combined earned runs with five walks versus 24 strikeouts.
June 12, 2008
Dan Haren worked six strong innings on Thursday permitting the Mets to score only two runs in a no-decision. Haren, as always, exhibited tremendous control walking none while striking out five.

Our View:Simply put, Haren is one of the best starters in baseball, and a tremendous number two option for Arizona. Haren has made 14 starts this year and 13 times he has allowed two or fewer walks, which goes a long way to explaining his success.
June 7, 2008
Dan Haren hurled another quality start on Saturday allowing three runs in seven innings against the Pirates to pick up a no-decision.

Our View:Haren was stung for two home runs on the day, but thanks to his ability to limit base runners, he allowed one six base runners, he was able to limit the damage.
June 1, 2008
Haren was outstanding for seven innings on Sunday helping the Diamondbacks post back-to-back shutouts for the first time since May 26-27, 2006, at Cincinnati. Haren allowed four hits, walked three and struck out five in the win.

Our View:Haren lowered his 3.75 ERA to 3.40 after the effort and won his sixth game of the season.
May 22, 2008
Dan Haren was sailing along until he surrendered three runs in the seventh inning as he came out on the losing end of a 4-0 loss to the Marlins. Haren allowed all four runs in 6.2 innings though he did not allow a walk while striking out eight.

Our View:Through his first 10 starts in the NL Haren owns a 3.39 ERA and 1.01 WHIP and has provided exactly what those who invested an early pick on him this year had hoped for.
May 16, 2008
Dan Haren registered his fifth win of the season on Friday as Arizona topped Detroit 4-3. Haren allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings, with no walks and four strikeouts. Most of the damage came on a two-run homer by Miguel Cabrera.

Our View:Haren held an excellent 0.99 WHIP over 50.1 innings prior to tonight's outing, and he only had one poor start all season, when he got rocked for five earned runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings against the Dodgers on April 23. Haren has played up to high expectations with the D-Backs so far this season.
May 9, 2008
Dan Haren allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five over seven innings, but suffered his second loss of the season to an even better Ted Lilly and the Cubs on Friday afternoon.

Our View:Haren was good enough to win in the day game at historic Wrigley field, but Ted Lilly was better. The Diamondbacks have hit a part of the schedule that will test their metal, with a road trip in Chicago before returning home to face a desperate Rockies team and then an innerleague series against Detroit.
May 9, 2008
Dan Haren will be targeting his fifth win of the season when the Diamondbacks battle the Cubs in Chicago today, according to MLB.com. Haren is 4-1 this season, with a 3.12 ERA and stellar 0.99 WHIP over 43.1 innings, with only eight walks and 36 strikeouts.

Our View:Haren is 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA at Wrigley Field, but he should be locked into your lineups today.
April 28, 2008
Dan Haren pitched into the eighth inning and hit an RBI double to help his cause in leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-3 victory of the Houston Astros on Monday night. Haren allowed three runs on five hits, struck out five while walking one.

Our View:Haren won his fourth game in April. The effort against the Astros on Monday night landed his ERA at 3.13, WHIP at 1.05 and he now has 29 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work.
April 24, 2008
Dan Haren pitched his worst game of the season on Wednesday night as he allowed six runs, five earned, in just 4.2 innings against the Dodgers to pick up his first loss.

Our View:Every pitcher has a bad outing every once in a while, and this was just one of those night's for Haren. This was the first time in five starts this season that he permitted more than three runs or failed to pitch at least six innings in a game.
April 18, 2008
For the first time in four outings Dan Haren pitched more than six innings, he went seven tonight, and he held the Padres scoreless on just three hits and a walk to pick up his third victory of the season.

Our View:Haren continues his dominating start to the season with a 1.80 ERA through 25 innings during which time he has permitted only 18 hits and four walks.
April 12, 2008
Dan Haren limited the Rockies to just one run over six innings to pick up his second victory of the season.

Our View:Haren punched out seven batters and allowed just seven base runners in yet another fantastic outing for the streaking Diamondbacks.
April 7, 2008
Dan Haren won his first game as a Diamondback on Monday night as he held the Dodgers to just one earned run in six innings. Haren also displayed his trademark control on Monday night as he struck out five without a single walk. Haren should settle in quite nicely behind Brandon Webb and he just might be the best starter in all of baseball this season.
April 2, 2008
In the first official start of his D'backs career, Dan Haren allowed three runs on four hits and a walk on Wednesday. Haren was solid throughout but two mistakes were hit for home runs ruining his outing. Still, he was able to make it through six innings on just 90 pitches and showed flashes of being the dominant pitcher that he is.
March 27, 2008
Dan Haren earned his first win of the spring against the White Sox on Thursday, as he only allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings of work, with one walk and six strikeouts. Both of the runs came on solo homers by Konerko and Dye, and this was a strong outing overall for the D-Backs' hurler.
March 22, 2008
Dan Haren allowed just three hits and a walk while recording an amazing 11 strikeouts during six scoreless innings pitched in a camp game today, but the team is more excited about his strength while hitting a target pitch count of 90, according to MLB.com. Haren has one more start scheduled before the regular season (slated to start the second game of the year), and the team has decided to use these last two outings to test Haren’s ability to go deep into games. Today’s performance is a good sign that the righty should be just fine. "I felt good," Haren said. "I tried to treat it like it was a real game. I was able to work with Robby for the first time, which was nice, and much needed, too. My arm continues to gain strength. Obviously, the results were good. I'm not necessarily looking for the greatest results. I just want to make sure all my pitches are crisp and there, and they were today. I'm sure that's why I had success today. I'm just glad I got my pitch count up to 90. I should be good to go next time for a full load."
March 7, 2008
Dan Haren mostly threw sinking fastballs and splitters after joining the A's, but he's been working on elevating his fastballs this spring with the Diamondbacks, according to the Arizona Republic. "Going up in the zone, elevating, especially after throwing a few down there, can be useful," he said. "Changing their eye level . . . if they swing at it or not," he said, "just to change it and then maybe go back to the split or breaking ball from there, just change it up a bit." You have to love a 15-game winner, who carried a 3.07 ERA and 1.21 WHIP last season, who wants to keep improving his game.
March 1, 2008
Dan Haren made his Arizona spring debut on Saturday. The ex-Athletic allowed one run on five hits over a pair of innings. Three of Haren's four strikeouts came on outstanding split-finger fastballs. Haren is a top-tiered mixed league option. His move from the AL to NL is positive; his venue move from Oakland to Arizona isn't.
