Jose Lopez was rested for the second consecutive day Thursday as the Mariners wanted to start Willie Bloomquist again, the AP reports. "I'm sure Jose's not happy about it, but I'm going with players I think are going to help us win that night," manager John McLaren said. "This is more about Willie than it is Jose. I like the energy he had (Wednesday)." Lopez wound up in the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth, drawing a walk.

Jose Lopez returned to the starting lineup Saturday after being held out the past two days for disciplinary reasons, the AP reports. "He's doing the things we want him to do," manager John McLaren said. "We're not down on Jose. We just want his focus to be better." Lopez went 0-for-3 in Saturday's loss at Toronto.

Jose Lopez will head to the bench for awhile. Lopez sat out Thursday's game and likely will miss the next several due to shoddy defense, according to the Seattle Times. "I don't know how long we're going to sit him," manager John McLaren said. "But we're going to sit him down for a while, let him gather his thoughts." Jose Vidro started at second Thursday, but Willie Bloomquist is expected to get most of the time there over the next few days.

Jose Lopez missed the past two games with a stiff back, but he should return to action Monday. "I could have played today," Lopez said, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, "but they wanted to wait a day. I should be OK on the road trip." It looks like he just has a minor problem and appears safe to put into your weekly lineups.

Jose Lopez was a late scratch from Sunday's lineup because of a bruised ankle, according to the AP. He suffered the injury on Saturday in a collision with Doug Mientkiewicz at first base. It's unclear if Lopez will be forced to miss any more time with the malady.

The Mariners signed Jose Lopez to a four-year contract on Wednesday, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but the deal includes a club option for 2011. "We project Jose to develop into a really special middle infielder," Mariners general manager Bill Bavasi said. "He appeared in the All-Star Game in his first full season, and is still improving both offensively and defensively." Lopez is hitting .267 with a homer and two RBI in 30 at-bats this year.
