Francisco Rosario is officially out of the running for the job in the Phillies' bullpen, according to MLB.com. Rosario was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder strain on Saturday, eliminating him from the competition for two available bullpen jobs. He went 0-1 with a 5.91 ERA in four Grapefruit League appearances, including one start. He hasn't thrown in a game since March 14. This spring, he allowed seven runs in 10 2/3 innings, walking five and striking out eight.

RHP Francisco Rosario suffered through a horrific outing today in the Phillies’ 1-9 loss to the Atlanta Braves in the Grapefruit League today, surrendering six runs on three hits, two walks, and two hit batters through just two innings of work. The bulk of the damage (though none of it was positive) came via a grand slam by SS Yunel Escobar in the second inning. Rosario, attempting to secure the fifth spot in the Phillies’ starting rotation, has been strong in spring training until today, sporting an ERA of 1.04 through 8 2/3 innings spent working out of the bullpen. Today’s performance is a concern but should not hamper Rosario’s efforts greatly. He clearly has work to do but has been a positive note thus far.

The Phillies acquired Francisco Rosario from the Blue Jays on Thursday in exchange for cash, according to the AP. "We like this guy's arm," general manager Pat Gillick said. "We think he has a power arm. He's had a poor track record, but we think he turned the corner this spring. He has a lot of upside. He's a guy we've watched since last season." The Phillies will make a roster move on Friday once Rosario joins the team. He'll work in middle relief.
