Dr. David Altchek will perform the operation at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Our View:He fared well as a reserve with the Mets this season, as he hit .275 with 13 RBI over 91 at-bats. |

May 8, 2008 Angel Pagan is bound for an MRI in New York today, after injuring his left shoulder on a great catch in the first inning of yesterday's win over the Dodgers, according to the NY Post. Pagan drove his shoulder into a folding seat after flipping over a concrete wall along the third-base line while catching a pop-up by Andre Ethier. Pagan said, "I was trying to play through it, but it just kept getting worse and worse. I had to stop because it got to be too much." Our View:Endy Chavez replaced Pagan in the field. Pagan racked up 13 RBI, 13 runs, and four stolen bases over 31 games, with seven doubles and one triple. The team will miss his speed on the base paths if he is forced to miss time. |

According to Matthew Cerrone's Mets Blog, Willie Randolph told the New York media after Wednesday's win that Pagan is talented. “I’ve seen this happen a lot in spring training. The guys in a good rhythm, in a good groove, and determined to make the team. I’ve seen that before, where guys go crazy in spring training. Like I said, he’s in great shape, he’s matured a lot since the last time I saw him and he’s having a real good spring so far." The injury to Moises Alou opens the door for Pagan to get the call for opening day, and if he continues to perform in March, there is little reason to believe the Willie "Wheels" Randolph, won't give him the opportunity. |
