Reed Johnson is struggling to regain his quickness on the bases after having back surgery earlier in the year, John Gibbons told the AP. Johnson returned to the club in early July. Johnson has never been a dynamic base-stealing threat, so these numbers don't necessarily alter his value that much. The bigger issue is the idea that he might not be 100 percent healed yet.

The Blue Jays activated Reed Johnson from the 60-day disabled list before Friday's game against Cleveland, according to the AP. He had been sidelined since April 12 after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. Toronto's projected leadoff hitter at the start of the season, Johnson batted in the two hole Friday, behind center fielder Vernon Wells.

Reed Johnson was placed on the DL Friday with a sore back, according to the AP. He underwent an MRI on Friday, but the Blue Jays are still awaiting the results. "We're still evaluating it right now," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. "We'll know more through the weekend. He's got some discomfort in his back, but we haven't been able to pinpoint it." Johnson missed two weeks of spring training with this injury, so the fact that it's popped up again is certainly a concern.
