John Harper of the NY Daily News believes the Mets would have to deal Ryan Church (and not Aaron Heilman) to the Rays to have a shot to acquire hurler Edwin Jackson.

Our View:The Rays will need depth for their outfield with Rocco Baldelli, and potentially Cliff Floyd, not expected back. The Rays like Heilman, but as a reliever and not a starting pitcher.
September 25, 2008
Ryan Church was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run in Thursday night's dramatic 7-6 victory over the Cubs.

Our View:He had been 3 for his previous 22 at bats. He was also caught stealing by Koyie Hill (who allowed four other steals on the night).
September 18, 2008
Mets outfielder Ryan Church went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs in the Mets 7-2 win over Washington.

Our View:Church has had a miserable September, hitting just .208 before this game. He had 12 strikeouts but just four walks coming into the game.
September 3, 2008
Ryan Church was 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the Mets 9-2 win over the Brewers on Wednesday.

Our View:Look for Church to continue to see plenty of RBI opportunities hitting in the middle of the potent Mets lineup.
August 26, 2008
Manager Jerry Manuel had said that he was going to ease Ryan Church back into the lineup, but now he thinks Church is ready to play every day, according to MLB.com. "I think he's at the point now where he has to be one of those four or five guys who's in there every day," Manuel said.

Our View:Church will handle right, while Fernando Tatis and Daniel Murphy will share the duties on left field.
August 22, 2008
Ryan Church returned to the big leagues and he will start in Friday's game, according to MetsBlog.com.

Our View:Church is expected to play in a platoon role in order to lighten the potential for his post-concussion problems to reappear. Clearly this is not something fantasy owners must be thrilled about, as his value takes a significant drop.
August 21, 2008
Ryan Church, who was recovering from post-concussion syndrome, will return to the Mets Friday, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Church will not return to the starting lineup, and will share playing time with Fernando Tatis in right field. Nick Evans and Dan Murphy will also continue to platoon in left field. Church will not hold favorable fantasy value as a reserve.
August 20, 2008
When outfielder Ryan Church returns to the Mets, it will be as a back-up, according to Mets.com. "When he does come back, we don't have to rely heavily on him playing every single day," Mets manager Jerry Manuel said.

Our View:Church is currently rehabbing from post-concussion syndrome in Triple-A ball. It is not known when he will be recalled, but his fantasy stock just took a big hit. He was highly productive in the 57 games he played this year, hitting 10 home runs with 36 RBI and an OPS of .882. It will be difficult for fantasy players to rely on a player who is not guaranteed a certain number of at-bats.
August 20, 2008
Ryan Church, who is recovering from post-concussion syndrome, made his second straight start in the outfield for Triple-A New Orleans Tuesday night, according to the NY Daily News. He went 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

Our View:His successful outing will move him one step closer to being activated, possibly in September.
August 18, 2008
Ryan Church, coming back from concussion symptoms, played five innings in a rehab game for Triple-A New Orleans Monday. "Everything was fine," Church told the NY Daily News. "It felt good to get in the field again."

Our View:Church will surely have to get in at least a handful more of rehab games before the Mets will consider activating him.
August 17, 2008
The Mets have moved Ryan Church's next rehab start to Triple-A New Orleans due to the Tropical Storm (named Fay) that is heading to the Florida coast, according to the NY Post.

Our View:Church had been playing with the Mets' Gulf Coast League affiliate in Port St. Lucie.
August 15, 2008
Ryan Church went 1-for-3 with an RBI single Friday, serving as the DH for the Mets' Gulf Coast League affiliate, according to MetsBlog.com. Church, who went on the DL on July 6 with post-concussion syndrome, is expected to work his way into playing the outfield in the next couple of days.

Our View:The Mets aren't getting their hopes up for Church returning this year, and neither should you. We'll continue to track his progress.
August 10, 2008
Ryan Church, who is trying to bounce back from post-concussion syndrome, was reportedly impressive during a batting practice session on Saturday, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:He hit towering shots over the outfield wall, including one to dead-center, during his batting session at Shea. He then headed to Florida, where he is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment. Barring a setback, Church could return for the Mets' next home stand, which opens August 19 against Atlanta.
August 9, 2008
Ryan Church will work out at Shea Stadium before heading to Florida to play in minor league games as he attempts to come back from post-concussion syndrome, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Church had been playing very well for fantasy owners, and those who have hung on to him may be rewarded soon. However, there's still a real possibility he could be out the rest of the year if his symptoms return.
August 7, 2008
The Mets aren't counting on Ryan Church returning from post-concussion syndrome this season, according to the NY Daily News. "I'm not optimistic about that," manager Jerry Manuel said. "It's very foreign to all of us and we just aren't sure as to where it could go. And historically, it hasn't gone in our direction. We've been going through this, I don't know how long. Two months? Whatever. But, if it does turn out to be something favorable for us, it would be very, very welcome." Church took batting practice with the team yesterday and fielded balls in the outfield and is expected to go through an examination either today or tomorrow.

Our View:The surprising production of Fernando Tatis is looking more and more welcome each day. However, the Mets are trotting out a host of unknowns in left field these days.
August 6, 2008
Ryan Church's potential return from post-concussion syndrome could hinge on an examination that he'll go through on Thursday or Friday, according to MetsBlog.com. Manager Jerry Manuel isn;t getting his hopes up. "I've said before that I'm not optimistic about [Church], because it's really foreign to all of us and we're just unsure as to whether he can go," Manuel said. "If it does turn out to be something that's favorable for us, it would be a welcomed addition for us."

Our View:The Mets could certainly use Church's bat back in the lineup. We'll let you know what comes of his exam.
July 30, 2008
The Mets have decided to alter the rehab work of Ryan Church as he will now travel with the team instead of heading to Florida for a minor league assignment as previously planned, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Church is eligible to return on Tuesday, but it is unclear if that is a realistic target date or not. He would more than likely need a couple of games in the minors to get ready.
July 29, 2008
Ryan Church was cleared to begin baseball activities Monday and should resume hitting Tuesday, according to the NY Daily News. The outfielder, who is coming back from post concussion syndrome, expects to play in rehab games this weekend and could be back with the Mets in a week.

Our View:The Mets suddenly aren't that desperate for outfield help with the emergence of Fernando Tatis, but they will welcome Church back into the right field slot.
July 25, 2008
Mets outfielder Ryan Church has been given the okay to start light conditioning, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:There is still no timetable for Church's return, and he will have to go on a rehab assignment before coming back, so it likely won't be for some time.
July 22, 2008
MLB.com reports that Ryan Church is taking his time from returning to from the DL with post-concussion syndrome. He was in the Mets dugout on Tuesday and felt fine, but he won't resume any basbeall related activities until he feels good for four to five consecutive days.

Our View:Once Church returns, he will be a fantasy factor in a hot Mets lineup. His averages of .307/.370/.512 are in need as the Mets make a move to win their division.
July 17, 2008
Ryan Church is said to be doubtful to be activated from the DL when eligible on Tuesday, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Skipper Jerry Manuel noted that Church didn't suffer a setback in his recovery from post-concussion syndrome, and the team is just being cautious with him. Church is anxious to play, but the team is yet to determine when he will be return to action.
July 13, 2008
Ryan Church (concussions) played catch before the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game against the Colorado Rockies and could be back soon after the All-Star break, manager Jerry Manuel told the AP.

Our View:At one point the team thought the season could be over for their right fielder. The way the Mets are clicking, adding Church to the 25-man roster will make the team that much better.
July 12, 2008
Ryan Church, who is still recovering from post-concussion syndrome, underwent multiple neurological tests in Cleveland over the last few days, according to Newsday.

Our View:The results were positive enough that the team is cautiously optimistic the outfielder will be able to return to action this season. The timetable for a potential return remains uncertain, however.
July 8, 2008
According to Ed Coleman, during his appearance on WFAN, the Mets have placed OF Ryan Church on the 15-day disabled list due to consistent migraines.

Our View:Church was performing well since his return and was not expected to land on the DL. You just never know with concussions, though. Marlon Anderson and Fernando Tatis will be in line for playing time in the short term, but Moises Alou could be back shortly after the break.
July 8, 2008
The Mets still expect Ryan Church to return to the Mets' lineup this month, despite sending him home yesterday for further neurological tests by a second team doctor, according to the NY Post. GM Omar Minaya said Church isn't likely to go on the DL again because both the outfielder and the team feel Church's current dizziness is related to migraine headaches and not his two concussions this season.

Our View:Results of an MRI yesterday on Church's brain and neck were negative, and the Mets are listing him as day to day.
July 7, 2008
Ryan Church is going to undergo more tests on his head Monday, according to the NY Post. He was recently activated from the DL after suffering from post-concussion syndrome, and Church said, "The next day or two feels like I've been in a car accident or something, my head hurts when I'm barely moving and I'm nauseated. I'd rather have a concussion than a migraine."

Our View:The Mets don't plan to place Church back on the DL, although skipper Jerry Manuel said he did not know the exact date Church would make his next start in the outfield.
July 6, 2008
As of now, Ryan Church is not penciled into Sunday's lineup against the Phillies, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:Manager Jerry Manuel previously said Church would play today if his heachache has subsided, but Marlon Anderson looks to get the nod in left field.
July 6, 2008
Ryan Church stated that the dizziness he experienced on Saturday was not related to his concussions, and was merely a migraine, according to the NY Daily News. Church said, "I'm relieved that my doctor said that this was probably triggered because of a migraine. I'm going to get some medication for it, the onset of it, it's just like I had migraines in the past."

Our View:Manager Jerry Manuel said he would play Sunday if the headache has subsided.
July 5, 2008
Ryan Church was removed from the Mets game on Saturday night after complaining of dizziness, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Church, who has suffered two concussions this year, had recently returned from more than three weeks on the DL. Given the flack that the Mets took for allowing him to play earlier on, and the fact that Church clearly isn't right, it would be a shocker if he wasn't shutdown at least until after the All-Start break, and possibly much longer.
July 4, 2008
Ryan Church will not be in the lineup tonight against the Phillies and lefty J.A. Happ, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Happ is a lefty, but Church hits lefties to the tune of .317. The team is probably just being careful with him since his return from post-concussion syndrome.
June 30, 2008
Ryan Church fared well in his first game back from post-concussion syndrome on Sunday, according to the NY Post. He delivered two hits and made three putouts in the outfield in the Mets' 3-1 win over the Yankees. He said, "The whole day was fine."

Our View:Church is safe to return to your lineups, and he is confident his return will not be sidetracked, and he has not had a post-concussion symptom for around two weeks.
June 29, 2008
Ryan Church has been activated from the 15-day DL Sunday and is back in the Mets' lineup against the Yankees, according to the AP. The team placed Trot Nixon on the 15-day DL due to a groin ailment, to make room for Church on the roster.

Our View:Church was enjoying a solid season prior to landing on the DL with a concussion, as he held a .300 average with 10 homers, 35 RBI, and 35 runs scored over 50 games. He should be safe to return to your fantasy lineups.
June 28, 2008
Updating an earlier report, the Mets have confirmed outfielder Ryan Church will be on the field tomorrow in the third and final game of the interleague series against the Yanks, according to MetsBlog.com.

Our View:MB also notes outfielder Moises Alou is likely to return next weekend. We'll keep you posted on the progress of that sidestory with updates likely to come later in the week.
June 28, 2008
Reports from New York have Mets outfield Ryan Church in uniform and in the clubhouse today, but beliefs put forth have him serving off the bench rather than starting against the Yankees today, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Church, on the disabled list since June 6 because of post-concussion syndrome, was scheduled to play in the field last night for the Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones, but rumors of a return on Sunday have him back with the squad in the Big Apple. It sounds like he is on pace to meet our expectations but could pinch hit today. Stay tuned.
June 27, 2008
Ryan Church could return for Sunday’s finale of the Subway Series, Jerry Manuel said before Game 1 of the teams' twin-bill on Friday, this according to the New York Post. Church, on the disabled list since June 6 because of post-concussion syndrome, is scheduled to play in the field tonight for the Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones.

Our View:The report noted that Manuel said there is “an outside chance” Church could come off the DL in time for Sunday’s game so it appears Sunday is the earliest the right fielder will return.
June 26, 2008
Ryan Church played five innings for Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday going 3-for-3 at the plate in his attempt to return from a concussion, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Church has been on the DL since June 6, and he looked solid on this day raising hopes that he could be activated by the weekend to give the Mets a bat they sorely miss with Moises Alou still out of action.
June 25, 2008
The New York Daily News reports that Ryan Church (concussions) ran "full-out gasser sprints" in the outfield Tuesday, but he doesn't expect to start his rehab assignment at Brooklyn until tomorrow. "I don't think it will be (today)," Church said. "I want to be back to play against (the Yankees this weekend), but I know I have to be smart about this whole thing."

Our View:Church's return to active duty is on a day-to-day timetable.
June 23, 2008
Interim manager Jerry Manuel commented that he hopes to have Ryan Church back in the Mets' lineup by this weekend's series against the Yankees, according to the NY Post.

Our View:He is recovering from post-concussion syndrome, and will take batting practice before tonight's game with Seattle. He will then play in one or two games with Single-A Brooklyn prior to his return.
June 21, 2008
Ryan Church, who is recovering from a mild concussion, will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Brooklyn next week, according to the NY Post.

Our View:He is expected to play one or two games with Brooklyn, before returning to the Mets.
June 16, 2008
Ryan Church will likely rejoin the Mets during their homestand against the Mariners that begins June 23, according to the NY Daily News. He is recovering from a mild concussion and will begin working out again today. Church said, "I feel great, every day is getting better. I haven't had any spells or anything like that. It's one of those things now, just waiting out the time on the DL."

Our View:He will provide a solid boost to the Mets' lineup when he returns, as he was hitting .300 with 10 homers, 35 RBI, and 35 runs scored over 50 games.
June 15, 2008
Ryan Church was at Shea on Saturday for the first time since he went on the disabled because of concussion symptoms. He emphatically said, according to Newsday, he feels great--better than he had when he insisted before that he had recovered and insisted on playing, which he admits was a mistake.

Our View:Church has been cleared to start exercising today and believes it is only a matter of waiting for the required 15 days on the disabled list to pass before he is playing.
June 11, 2008
Ryan Church, on the DL with post-concussion symptoms, will not return to active duty until he is cleared by a neurologist, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Given the vagaries of how individuals respond to head injuries, there really is no certain timetable for his return. He is eligible to return on June 21st, but it's unclear if that will happen.
June 9, 2008
The Mets have placed Ryan Church on the DL, according to the Journal News. Church came back briefly from a concussion that he suffered nearly three weeks ago but was recently shut down because he was still experiencing post-concussion symptoms.

Our View:The Mets are off today, so they'll likely just replace Church with Moises Alou, who is expected to be activated from the DL tomorrow.
June 8, 2008
The Mets have shut Ryan Church down, and the outfielder could be headed to the DL, according to the NY Daily News. Church is still dealing with post-concussion symptoms. "It's not like a headache," Church said. "It's just like a pounding. I feel like a heartbeat in my head. I just didn't feel right. When he came to me to ask if I could hit, I said, 'No. I can't do it.'"

Our View:Church will see a neurologist in New York, likely on Tuesday, and could be placed on the DL after that. The Mets need to shut him down and get him right.
June 7, 2008
Ryan Church was not in the Mets lineup on Saturday for the third time in four days, and he will likely also be out of the lineup on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Church had returned from his concussion to have a few productive days, but it's clear that he isn't 100% as the Mets continue to be very careful with him after many believe he was rushed back initially.
June 7, 2008
The Mets rested Ryan Church on Friday after playing him in four of the last five games following his return from a concussion. Manager Willie Randolph said he wanted to "try and get (Church) in shape," according to the AP. Randolph added: "There's a chance to build up his stamina."

Our View:It sounds like Church may get a day off here and there over the next couple weeks just to ease him back into things, which is probably a wise move by the Mets.
June 1, 2008
Ryan Church, who had been out of the lineup since he was hurt May 20 trying to break up a game-ending double play at Atlanta, hit a home run and a double in his first start since suffering the head trauma.

Our View:The Mets right fielder didn't get the go-ahead from doctors to play in the field until Sunday morning, and he made the most of his first start. With Carlos Beltran contributing, Church back in the lineup and the return of Pedro, the Mets could find some momentum.
May 31, 2008
Mets outfielder Ryan Church participated in all team practice activities on Friday and could be back on the field of play as early as Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The Mets will face the Dodgers in the series finale and could put Church in action for the first time since suffering his second concussion in as many months on May 20th. He took batting practice, shagged fly balls, and took several sprints across the field during pregame warm-ups, giving the Mets reason to target Sunday for return.
May 29, 2008
Ryan Church (concussion) hopes to be able to return to baseball activities on Friday, according to MLB.com. "They didn't do anything wrong," he said of the Mets. "When it came down to it, they asked me. I was the final say, and I told them, basically, that I couldn't go out on the field and play, but I could pinch-hit."

Our View:The Mets have been roundly criticized for allowing Church to play despite the fact that he was still suffering from concussion related symptoms. Though he has improved, he isn't out of the woods yet, so keep an eye on reports before you decide whether or not to activate him next week.
May 28, 2008
Ryan Church will remain at home tonight when the Mets host the Marlins, according to MetsBlog.com. GM Omar Minaya said that Church, who is dealing with a concussion, wanted to come to the park tonight, but the team and doctors decided more rest was necessary.

Our View:Minaya said Church could be ready to play this weekend, but we're still not ruling out a DL stint.
May 28, 2008
Ryan Church remains at home and out of the lineup on Wednesday, Newsday reports. The outfielder is dealing with post-concussion symptoms but has thus far avoided the DL.

Our View:We're mildly surprised the Mets haven't placed Church on the DL, as it makes sense to be certain he has enough time to get over his symptoms. Nick Evans and Fernando Tatis continue to see playing time.
May 27, 2008
Ryan Church, still dizzy from his concussion last week, was sent home Tuesday, according to the AP. Church was examined by a neurologist and underwent an MRI exam that did not reveal any brain injuries. GM Omar Minaya said Church is considered day-to-day and could rejoin the team Wednesday, but the GM also didn't rule out a potentialy DL stint for the outfielder. "It's going to be how he feels," Minaya said. "We've done a CT scan and that came out normal. The MRI has come out normal. There's no brain injuries or (anything) like that, but the fact that there is some dizziness, we want to be cautious."

Our View:It's just a hunch, but we're betting a retroactive DL stint is in Church's future. Fernando Tatis and Nick Evans are playing surprisingly well as fill-ins, though Endy Chavez isn't doing anything noteworthy.
May 27, 2008
Ryan Church is expected to be examined by a neurologist today, according to the NY Daily News. Church made his fourth appearance over seven games as a pinch-hitter on Monday, but is still feeling the effects of his concussion. He isn't ready to return to the starting lineup and said, "When I got home, my ears felt like they were going to explode. I'd be able to play if I was just without the dizziness. The sooner I get rid of that, the sooner I can get out there. I am just sick of feeling like this."

Our View:We will keep you posted on his visit to the neorologist today. Hopefully he will be able to return soon, as he is hitting .309 with nine homers and 32 RBI over 46 games, with 34 runs scored.
May 26, 2008
Ryan Church (concussion) missed his sixth straight start with a concussion. He grounded out for the second straight game as a pinch hitter.

Our View:Church is expected to visit a neurologist on Tuesday to find out what can be done about his headaches and dizziness.
May 26, 2008
Ryan Church appeared as a pinch-hitter on Sunday, but remains day-to-day due to his concussion, according to the NY Post. He isn't comfortable playing the field yet.

Our View:He is hitting .311 with nine homers, 32 RBI, and 34 runs over 45 games, and hopefully he can get back on track when he ultimately returns.
May 24, 2008
Ryan Church was out of the lineup again Saturday. He hasn't started since suffering a mild concussion on Tuesday. "He still says he feels a little funny," manager Willie Randolph said in the AP.

Our View:Concussions are tricky, so it's hard to predict when Church will be back. The Mets could certainly use him, as their outfield is really banged up right now.
May 23, 2008
Ryan Church has been held out of the lineup again on Friday. The outfielder suffered a mild concussion on Tuesday and wasn't in the starting lineup Thursday, though he did pick up a pinch hit.

Our View:Church said he was fine to play yesterday before manager Willie Randolph decided to exercise caution and hold him out, so it's a bit of a surprise to see him not playing tonight. He should be back sometime this weekend.
May 22, 2008
Ryan Church told reporters on Wednesday that he never had a concussion, is fine, and expects to be back in the lineup during Thursday's battle against the Braves, according to MetsBlog.com. Coach Willie Randolph wants to be more cautious however, and he said, "We’re going to be ultra cautious with him. When you’re dealing with the head injuries you don’t want to mess with that. We want to make sure he can do physical things, get up and down and give us an honest feeling of where he is. If he feels any type of lightheadedness or wooziness, then we won’t take a chance with him. He’s too important to us."

Our View:It sounds like he will be alright, but Randolph could hold him out until the weekend to play it safe.
May 21, 2008
Ryan Church still has a headache, but he suggested he could be back in the lineup as soon as Thursday, according to the New York Daily News. The outfielder suffered a mild concussion when he collided with the Braves' Yunel Escobar in last night's game.

Our View:It's good to hear he'll be alright. The Mets could play it safe and hold him out until the weekend, but it sounds like he'll be back soon enough.
May 21, 2008
Ryan Church left Tuesday night's game with a concussion after trying to break up a game-ending double play, but is doing good, according to MetsBlog.com. Catcher Brian Schneider told WFAN that he talked with Church this morning by phone, and Church is doing good, and will report to the field today at regular time, though it is doubtful he will play.

Our View:Church is listed as day-to-day. Church is hitting well with a .311 average over 42 games with nine homers and 32 RBI, and it took a concussion to slow him down. We will keep you posted on his status.
May 18, 2008
Ryan Church scored another three runs on Sunday night and now has crossed home plate 34 times in 40 games played with the Mets. Church also knocked in two runs to up his total to 32 on the year thanks in part to his ninth home run of the season.

Our View:Church has been spectacular in the early going, and in fact, he has been the Mets most consistent bat all year long.
May 13, 2008
Ryan Church continues to be the Mets most consistent offensive player as he had two more hits, including his eighth home run of the year, in addition to four RBI.

Our View:Who would have thought Church was capable of this type of production? Given his history no sane person would have considering he is on pace to hit more than 30 HR with over 100 RBI. If he continues to hit second in the Mets order, even when he slows down, he should still be able to produce a boatload of runs.
May 7, 2008
Ryan Church upped his average to .328 thanks to three hits on Wednesday in a game in which he also scored three times giving him 27 runs in 31 games for the Mets.

Our View:Church is making those owners who took a chance on him in the later rounds look like geniuses. His fantasy value would likely be a bit higher if the Mets left him in the second hole, but he should still be plenty valuable if he can stay in the fifth spot as well.
April 24, 2008
Ryan Church went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI on Thursday for the Mets.

Our View:Church is now hitting a blistering .350 through 80 AB, and he is proving the Mets faith in him to be well founded in the early going.
April 23, 2008
Ryan Church, the Mets new number five hitter, went 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI against the Nationals.

Our View:Church has proven to be a great off-season pickup for the Mets as he is swimming along with a .342 average and 18 runs scored on the season. If he keeps this up, he just might make Mets fans forget about Shawn Green.
April 18, 2008
Ryan Church had two hits and three runs scored on Friday night against the Phillies.

Our View:Church seems to have found a home in the second spot in the order as he is 6-for-18, .333, since moving into that spot in the order.
April 16, 2008
Ryan Church was moved into the second spot in the Mets order, and on Wednesday night he had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI. One of the hits was a HR, and he is now hitting .340 on the year.

Our View:Church has been exactly as advertised in the early going providing a solid bat in the Mets lineup amidst all the star power.
April 9, 2008
Ryan Church has fared well against Kyle Kendrick, today's opposing hurler for Philadelphia, according to MLB.com. Church has generated two singles, one home run, and two walks over nine career plate appearances versus Kendrick. Church is off to a solid start as he is hitting 8-for-24, with one homer and six RBI, and looks to have a good day at the plate today.
April 2, 2008
Ryan Church lined a home run into the right field seats and picked up two other hits on Wednesday for the Mets. Church also had two other hits and knocked in three runs on the day. Given 500 AB, there is no reason to think that Church will fail to turn in a 20 HR, 80 RBI season, and if he is able to reach those levels he would seem to be a fine depth outfielder.
April 1, 2008
With the Mets facing a right-hander Tuesday, Ryan Church has moved from seventh to sixth in the lineup, switching spots with Angel Pagan. The rest of the lineup remained the same from the previous day and will likely stay that way for the most part until Moises Alou returns.
March 27, 2008

Manager Randolph commented on Ryan Church , according to MetsBlog.com. Randolph said, "He’s getting better and better. He’s had a lot of at bats, he’s taking some pitches, and he’s good that way. I just want to keep seeing him make the progress hitting the ball the other way, and getting the ball through the middle, that’s where he’s gonna make his money…He’s a little bit behind, so he needs at bats, but he’s got plenty of time to get ready…If he just hits the ball the other way against against lefties, he’s gonna be fine…We want him to see him get his hits to build his confidence, but I’m not looking at him as having to get hits to get on our team, obviously. He’s going to be my right fielder." Church makes a favorable late round draft selection.

Ryan Church, hitting a robust .152, still has confidence that he will be able to produce for the Mets this season thanks to a new batting stance, this according to MLB.com. "It feels better when I'm loading," Church says. "I feel more balanced. I keep my hands lower, too, so now I don't drop the barrel so much. And I'm using my legs more. ... When I do it right, it works well." Church figures to be the full-time RF this season for the Mets, a fact that many people have seemed to overlook as Church is being taken very late in drafts. He likely isn't a breakout candidate, but a 20 HR, 80 RBI season appears within reach.

Ryan Church returned to exhibition action on Saturday after missing time with a concussion, according to the New York Daily News. "Willie (Randolph) asked me if I wanted another day (off), but I wanted to get out there," Church said. "I'm a little fatigued, a little tired, but other than that, no headaches or dizzy spells. I feel good. I didn't think about it at all ... and now I can just put it behind me. I know I can play (today) if I feel like I do right now." It looks like Church is good to go and should be fine for opening day.

"It’s a good sign, a good start," he said. "I feel a lot better." He'll find out Wednesday from the training staff what his next step will be, though he hopes he'll be taking batting practice soon. "He doesn’t remember anything about anything," said Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said. "He doesn’t remember going out to catch the ball. He doesn’t remember the collision. He’s able to walk. Ryan Church will have the inside track to start in RF for the Mets according to a report in the AP. "My goal this spring training is to focus more on hitting off lefties. If there's opportunities to step in against these guys during BP, anything like that." Church struggled to hit lefties last year (.229) though he is slightly better against southpaws in his career (.254). If Church can overcome this deficiency he could be a nice 4th OF in mixed leagues with the potential to hit 20 HR with 80 RBI.
