B.J. Upton awoke from his spring slumber on Saturday, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs.

Our View:His average is now up to .304 for the spring. If he can hit .304 this upcoming season, he should be one of the league's most dangerous number six hitters.

B.J. Upton could open this season as low as No. 7 in the Rays' lineup, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Manager Joe Maddon noted that Upton has the potential to move up, but for now, it looks like No. 6 could be as high as he gets. Jason Bartlett is due to lead off, with Carl Crawford batting second. Next will come Ben Zobrist, Carlos Pena and Evan Longoria in some order from Nos. 3 to 5, with Upton and Pat Burrell battling it out for the No. 6 and 7 spots. Upton remains a high-upside guy, though his run total could be somewhat limited if he remains toward the end of the lineup.

The Rays have won their arbitration hearing against outfielder B.J. Upton, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:He'll make $3 million in 2010, $300,000 less than he was hoping for. After he hit just .241 last season, consider him lucky.
February 12, 2010
B.J. Upton's arbitration hearing has ended, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:Upton would like to be paid $3.3MM for 2010, while the Rays only offered $3MM. The results of his hearing are expected to be disclosed on Saturday.
January 19, 2010
B.J. Upton and the Rays have failed to agree upon a deal and will have to settle on a contract through arbitration, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:It's tough to speculate exactly what each side will be looking for and which side the arbitration panel will choose, given the up-and-down young career that Upton has been through thus far. The Rays have won all three of their past hearings.
