Player Notes
October 3, 2008
If the NLDS between the L.A. Dodgers and Chicago Cubs gets to a Game 4, either Derek Lowe or Greg Maddux will get the start, according to the L.A. Times.

Our View:Lowe would be throwing on three days' rest. Maddux was used out of the bullpen for one inning during Game 1, and is still an effective pitcher, despite his 8-13 record this season.
October 2, 2008
Greg Maddux came out of the bullpen and threw a scoreless inning for the Dodgers in their playoff victory over the Cubs, according to the L.A. Times. He says he would not be averse to being used two days in a row.

Our View:Maddux had a decent year, with a 4.22 ERA and 1.21 WHIP, but accumulated just eight victories. It was just the third time in two decades the future Hall of Fame hurler had been used in the role.
September 30, 2008
The Padres have acquired right-handed pitcher Eduardo Perez and left-handed pitcher Michael Watt to complete the deal that shipped Greg Maddux to the Dodgers, according MLB.com.

Our View:The Dodgers made the playoffs, so the Padres received two high profile minor league prospects as listed in the trade agreement.
September 27, 2008
The Dodgers have not said yet if they will use Greg Maddux in the playoffs as a starter, but on Saturday night he made a good case. In the Dodgers' 2-1 win, Maddux went six innings giving up one run on only two hits.

Our View:It will be another year in the playoffs for Maddux and if he is going to start it will be in Game 4 but manager Joe Torre has not said who will make that start.
September 26, 2008
Greg Maddux, who had his scheduled start on Thursday postponed, will now start on Saturday in an effort to allow the Dodgers to set up their playoff rotation, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View:Maddux will need the game to go 12 innings and to pitch a complete game to reach 200 innings this season. We're betting he won't last that long, he has to think about contributing in the playoffs after all.
