Recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee, Chad Tracy had a setback last week when he experienced a blood clot in his calf area. However, the D'Backs are still hopeful that Tracy will be ready by opening day. "I think if things go smoothly, Opening Day is possible," GM Josh Byrnes told MLB.com. "If they don't, then it could conceivably drag into the season, but we have been encouraged with the way things went before this little setback."

Chad Tracy appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from microfracture surgery on his knee. "I'm shooting for opening day," Tracy told the Arizona Republic last week. "Realistically, I'm not going to be able to start running until late January. I've got to make sure I don't go out and reinjure it because I'm not in good enough shape. You can't rush the strength, and you can't rush the endurance. It might be the end of spring training before I get the strength and endurance back." Even if all goes perfectly for Tracy during the offseason, you'll need to monitor his spring training performance closely to determine his draft value.
September 22, 2007
The knee surgery Chad Tracy underwent Thursday was more serious than had been hoped. Tracy needed microfracture surgery to help repair the cartilage damage in his knee, according to the Arizona Republic. NBA players have required well over a year to get back near 100 percent, but the Diamondbacks hope that Tracy will be ready for spring training, since he won't have the same jumping and constant running demands required of basketball. You'll want to keep a close eye on his progress as the season nears, regardless, as this was a major procedure.
September 19, 2007
Manager Bob Melvin hopes that Chad Tracy, who will undergo knee surgery Thursday, will be ready by spring training. "It depends on what they see in there," Melvin said in the Arizona Republic. "One of the reasons for doing it now is to get it done sooner than later."
September 18, 2007
Chad Tracy's return from the DL sure didn't last long. Tracy will undergo season-ending knee surgery Thursday after an MRI Monday revealed that the knee was getting worse. "What all is going on in there, we're not 100 percent sure," manager Bob Melvin said in the Arizona Republic. "There are some fragments in there and some other things we'll have to look at to see what's going on... When he got here today, it was as bad as it's been." Tracy was just activated from the DL Sunday and had a pinch-hit RBI single.
September 16, 2007
The D'Backs activated Chad Tracy from the DL Sunday. Tracy has been sidelined by a knee injury, and he's not expected to be anything more than a pinch hitter down the stretch. "I have the opportunity to help the team, and that's all I want right now," Tracy said to the AP. "It's not going to get any better, but I don't think it can get a whole lot worse, either. I can ride out the pain for an at-bat."
September 15, 2007
Chad Tracy was able to take some live batting practice on Friday and didn't feel any restrictions during the session. However, his knee tendinitis bothers him more when he runs than hits, according to the Arizona Republic. He's probably going to try running the bases on Saturday, which could give us an idea of how soon he can get back into game action. It appears that he could at least pinch-hit soon.
September 11, 2007
Chad Tracy hit soft tosses Monday in the batting cage for the first time since going on the disabled list. Tracy could take live batting practice during the weekend series in Los Angeles, according to the Arizona Republic. If Tracy is able to come back from his knee injury this year, he's unlikely to do so as an everyday player, because his knee might not be able to withstand it.
September 6, 2007
Chad Tracy, out with a right knee injury, is still at least a couple of days away from taking swings, according to the Arizona Republic. It's still possible that Tracy won't return this year, as has been speculated, GM Josh Byrnes appears optimistic about getting the slugger back into the lineup at some point this season.
September 3, 2007
On the disabled list with an injured right knee, Chad Tracy hasn't been able to do much besides play some catch. "He continues to do as much as he can physically, but he just has to let that knee rest to hopefully it gets back to where, once he starts strengthening and doing baseball activity, the problems have gone away," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. Nonetheless, at this point, it doesn't appear likely that Tracy will be able to get back into game action this season.
August 25, 2007
It doesn't appear likely that Chad Tracy will be able to return to action this season. "It's not great," manager Bob Melvin told the Arizona Republic. "He's still probably going to sit out a while. It's just not responding like we would have liked." Tracy was scheduled to have his ailing knee examined by a specialist on Friday, so we should have a more definite idea of Tracy's status once those results are made available. Still, it doesn't sound promising.
August 15, 2007
The Diamondbacks placed Chad Tracy on the disabled list Wednesday with a right knee injury, according to the AP. The knee has been bothering him for quite some time, and it's doubtful he's going to have much value the rest of the way.
August 15, 2007
It's possible that Chad Tracy's bothersome right knee could land him on the disabled list, according to the Arizona Republic. He received a cortisone shot in the knee on Sunday. A decision on Tracy's status should be made within the next couple of days.
August 12, 2007

August 2, 2007
Chad Tracy said his right knee is markedly improved after his first injection of a synthetic gel this past weekend, and he's expected to be back in the starting lineup today, according to the Arizona Republic. "It feels the best it has since it started (hurting)," Tracy said. "Hopefully some of the stuff that we're doing will stick and I can finish up strong." Tracy entered Wednesday's contest as a pinch-hitter and popped a three-run homer, so hopefully that's a good indication that he'll start producing.
August 1, 2007
Chad Tracy (knee) probably won't start again until Thursday at the earliest, the AP reports. In the meantime, he's available for pinch-hitting work.
July 30, 2007
Since Chad Tracy hasn't found much relief from his knee tendinitis by getting a cortisone shot, the Diamondbacks are going to try injecting a synthetic fluid into the joint. He was to have the first injection Sunday and likely will have at least two more in the near future, according to the Arizona Republic. "Hopefully, this option will help enough where I don't have to get surgery," Tracy said. "There's a couple options right know to try before we have to go that route." He was able to play Sunday before getting the first injection. Hopefully the injections will do the trick and keep him on the field the rest of the season.
July 29, 2007
Chad Tracy missed another game on Saturday due to his troublesome right knee. "We can use him to pinch-hit, but he's having trouble getting through a whole game, still," manager Bob Melvin said, according to the Arizona Republic. "Hopefully we get past that pretty soon." Tracy might get a cortisone shot to help deal with what's being called tendinitis. However, he had one before the Diamondbacks' last road trip, so it's not clear how much good it would do.
July 26, 2007
Manager Bob Melvin is hopeful that Chad Tracy, who has missed the last three games with inflammation in his right knee, will return to the lineup today, according to the Arizona Republic. "Right now it feels good," Tracy said. "We're just going to keep treating it all year long and try to get through the season."

July 23, 2007

July 21, 2007
Chad Tracy returned to the lineup on Friday, but he's still not 100 percent healthy. He's scheduled to undergo an MRI on his sore knee soon, according to the Arizona Republic. "They've been doing some stuff and it's been helping," he said. "Hopefully it will keep helping and I'll be able to deal with it." The MRI should reveal whether he'll eventually need surgery and how trainers can better treat the tendinitis in the joint. It sounds like he's not out of the woods yet, and the fact that surgery might be an eventual necessity is concerning.
July 20, 2007
Chad Tracy was back in the starting lineup for the Diamondbacks on Friday after missing two games with tendinitis in his right knee, according to the AP. He went 0-for-4 in his return. With lefties Rich Hill and Sean Marshall on the mound for the Cubs on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, Tracy may sit out one or both of the next two games.
July 20, 2007
Chad Tracy was unable to swing a bat on Thursday, which is an indication that the tendinitis in his right knee is not showing much improvement, according to the Arizona Republic. "We'll try to take care of this and see if he's all right to play (today)," manager Bob Melvin said. "He's a tough guy. This is bothering him." Tracy, who hasn't played since Tuesday, suffered similar injury in 2006, although it wasn't quite as severe as what he is dealing with now.
July 17, 2007
Chad Tracy's right knee felt a little better on Monday than it did on Sunday. He's been dealing with tendinitis in his knee since the All-Star break, according to the Arizona Republic. This doesn't appear to be a serious issue.
July 16, 2007
Chad Tracy was scratched from Sunday's game due to tendinitis in his right knee. Manager Bob Melvin said Tracy's battled tendinitis in both knees this season, but he doesn't think it's a long-term problem, according to the Arizona Republic. "We're just trying to get him a little extra rest to get him healthy," said Melvin. Look for Tracy to return to action on Monday and hope the Diamondbacks' caution will keep the tendinitis a minor issue.
June 10, 2007
As expected, the D'Backs activated Chad Tracy from the DL Sunday. Tracy had been out since May 16 with a sore left ribcage. With Tracy returning, manager Bob Melvin faces the challenge of keeping rookie Mark Reynolds' bat in the lineup. "We'll do the best we can," Melvin said in the AP. "You want to keep everybody involved, yet you still have to run your best lineup out there. So if someone gets their feelings hurt because they're not playing much, that can be the bad side of it."
June 10, 2007
It appears that the Diamondbacks will get Chad Tracy back in the mix on Sunday. The club is expected to activate him from the disabled list prior to the game, according to the Arizona Republic. Tracy, who has been out with a strained rib cage, was 3-for-6 in his second rehab game Saturday. He'll start at third base on Sunday.

Barring any setbacks, he could play one game with Triple-A Tucson on Thursday and rejoin the D'Backs on Friday for a series against the Red Sox, according to the Arizona Republic. Manager Bob Melvin said that he's still unsure how he's going to get both Tracy and Mark Reynolds in the lineup. "We still have a little time left," he said. "You can never have too many bats. How we'll fit them all in has yet to be determined."

May 17, 2007
Chad Tracy has been placed on the DL due to a strained rib cage. It was originally thought that Tracy would be able to avoid a DL stint, but the third baseman has been able to play in just three games over the last week, so the D'Backs decided to go ahead and make the move, according to the Arizona Republic. Mark Reynolds was recalled from Double-A Mobile to take Tracy's place on the roster.

Chad Tracy was back in the lineup Tuesday after missing Sunday's game against Houston, the AP reports. Tracy went 1-for-3 with a single. "He could have played Sunday," manager Bob Melvin said of Tracy, who strained his rib cage in Saturday's game. "It was more of a precaution."
May 14, 2007
The Diamondbacks' medical staff doesn't believe that Chad Tracy will require a trip to the disabled list after aggravating his rib-cage injury on Saturday, according to the Arizona Republic. However, he missed Sunday's game and could well miss Tuesday's contest, too. "I took a couple of steps back," he said Sunday morning. "I thought it was getting better and it would be gone soon, and it came back. So back to the training room."
