August 26, 2008
The Indians and Tigers put more than a few hits on the board this evening, but Cleveland found better efficiency and earned the win, 10-4. The effort, as is oftent the case, was led by ace Cliff Lee, going 7 2/3 innings to allow just two runs (both earned) on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View:Lee moves to 19-2 on the season with a 2.43 ERA. That puts Lee at 5-0 for the month of August, going at least seven innings in each with a combined total of eight earned runs with seven walks and 20 strikeouts.
August 21, 2008
Cliff Lee allowed two earned runs on six hits over seven innings in Thursday's 10-3 win over the Royals at Progressive Field, with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View:Lee improves to 18-2, and is 4-0 in August, with two or less earned runs allowed in all four outings.
August 15, 2008
Cliff Lee added another chapter to his storybook 2008 season Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts over all nine innings. It was Lee's third complete game of the season, and he now has an improbable record of 17-2.

Our View:Those that thought they could "sell high" on Lee at the All-Star break are likely regretting the decision, as he's still been dynamite.
August 10, 2008
Cliff Lee hurled another gem in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Blue Jays, as he notched eight scoreless innings, with eight hits allowed, to go along with no walks and one strikeout.

Our View:Lee improves to an American League-leading 16 wins, and lowered his ERA to 2.45.
August 4, 2008
Cleveland hurler Cliff Lee won his 15th game of the season, downing the Rays 5-2. Lee threw seven innings, allowing just two earned runs.

Our View:Lee's Cy Young season continues. Lee gave up eight hits and walked just two with a bounce back effort after he gave up six earned runs in his last start.
July 20, 2008
Cleveland LHP Cliff Lee continues to roll, lifting his Indians to a 6-2 win over Seattle today with his third complete game of the season. Lee pitched all nine innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on 11 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Lets go over some impressive numbers. For starters, Lee has pitched five starts, going at least six innings in each, without giving up a homer. During that same stretch, he has surrendered six walks versus 34 strikeouts. During that stretch, he's allowed a combined total of nine earned runs.
July 15, 2008
Cliff Lee threw two scoreless inning for the American League after starting the All-Star Game. He struck out three batters, including the first two he faced, and gave up just one hit, to Chipper Jones.

Our View:Lee showed why he was the starter, striking out Hanley Ramirez and Chase Utley to start the game, and later getting Ryan Braun on strikes.
July 14, 2008
Cliff Lee has been given the honor of starting the All-Star Game for the American League, according to the AP.

Our View:This is impressive considering he was demoted to the minors last season. Lee is currently 12-2 with a 2.31 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.
July 11, 2008
Cliff Lee added his 12th victory to go with six more shutout innings on Friday against the Rays. He struck out seven in the effort.

Our View:Lee is 5-0 with a 1.62 ERA in seven home starts.
July 6, 2008
Cliff Lee picked up his first loss since May 18 when he swuared off against the red-hot Twins on Sunday. He lasted seven innings and struck out six while giving up four earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks.

Our View:This is a bump in the road for Lee, who only gave up seven earned runs in his previous 30 innings. It will be interesting to see if he can possibly keep the momentum from a dominant first half after the All-Star break.
July 5, 2008
Cliff Lee will be the AL starter for the 2008 All-Star game, the New York Post reports. The southpaw is 11-1 with a 2.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 93 strikeouts this season.

Our View:This news isn't too surprising. Lee seemed like the favorite, although we liked the idea of Mariano Rivera working the first inning of the festivities at Yankee Stadium.
July 1, 2008
Cliff Lee only allowed one earned run on six hits over eight innings in Tuesday's close 3-2 loss to the division rival White Sox, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:He had another strong outing, but was dealt a no decision due to a lack of run support. Lee is 5-0 over his last seven starts, and has only surrendered one earned run in three straight.
June 26, 2008
Cliff Lee once again flashed his dominating form on Thursday night with a career-high 11 strikeouts in eight innings to defeat the Giants for his 11th victory of the season. Lee dominated the Giants hitter throwing 79 of 111 pitches for strikes while holding them to just four hits and a BB.

Our View:Every time we are just about ready to write him off and say the run has ended, he bounces back with an outing like this. As long as he keeps throwing strikes and doesn't walk anyone, he should continue to be one of the best hurlers in the junior circuit.
June 21, 2008
Cliff Lee pitched spectacularly on Friday allowing the Dodgers just one run over seven innings though his reward was a no-decision. Lee walked one and permitted six hits on the night.

Our View:14 starts and this big lefty still has a rock bottom ERA of 2.45. From the minors to possibly starting the All-Star game in nine months, what an incredible journey.
June 20, 2008
Cliff Lee will be shooting for his 11th win on the season when the Indians battle the Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight, according to MLB.com. Lee is 10-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 88.1 innings, with 76 strikeouts.

Our View:Lee has allowed two or less earned runs in nine of 13 starts this season, and has issued zero walks five times.
June 14, 2008
Cleveland LHP Cliff Lee put another worthy performance in the hands of his relievers, but they let it go in the 10th inning for the 9-4 loss to San Diego. Lee pitched 6 1/3 innings to allow two runs (both earned) on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Our View:Lee came in riding four consecutive wins and pitched well enough for another, but the relievers couldn't seal the deal. Lee touts just nine walks versus 30 strikouts during that span.
June 4, 2008
Cliff Lee needed 112 pitches and an aspirin after his five innings on the mound against the Rangers Wednesday night. Lee somehow salvaged a win as he watched his teammates rally for five runs in the sixth to take the lead for good. Lee allowed six runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out eight. The win is Lee's ninth of the season.

Our View:Everything ball that could bounce funny, did so on Wednesday night. The Rangers keep the dirt in their infield dry and the grass cut so low that the surface plays more like artificial turf. The outfield corners are an added nightmare to command -- balls rattle around with no rhyme or reason. And even when the wind is blowing in, balls carry in Arlington. The stadium is a pitcher's hell.
May 18, 2008
Cleveland LHP Cliff Lee suffered his first loss of the season, lasting just 5 2/3 innings to surrender six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, walking one and striking out two.

Our View:Lee surrendered two homers on the day, but that accounted for just three of those earned runs. The rest were spread out in what easily ranks as Lee's worst performance to date.
May 18, 2008
More than a few eyes will be on the afternoon battle that brings the Cleveland Indians and LHP Cliff Lee to Great American Ball Park to face the Cincinnati Reds and RHP Edinson Volquez.

Our View:Lee enters with an amazing record of 6-0 and an equally impressive 0.67 ERA while Volquez sits at 6-1 with a 1.12 ERA. Lee lacked the offensive support to be the first Cleveland pitcher in 86 years to win his first seven starts of the season and left with no decision despite pitching nine shutout innings. He carries a 3-1 record with an ERA of 5.60 against the Reds over his career.
May 12, 2008
Cliff Lee failed to become the American League's first seven-game winner even though he worked nine scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to 0.67.

Our View:The left-hander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out five.
May 12, 2008
Cliff Lee will look to remain unbeaten this season when the Indians host the Blue Jays in the second game of a double-header tonight, according to MLB.com. Lee is 6-0 this season with a microscopic 0.81 ERA and 0.60 WHIP over 44.2 innings, with only two walks and 39 strikeouts.

Our View:He is having an unbelievable season for a guy that had to fight for a bottom-of-the rotation spot through spring training. Lee is 0-3 with a 6.94 ERA in five career games against the Blue Jays, so this will be an interesting outing for him.
May 7, 2008
Cliff Lee continued his amazing start on Wednesday as he hurled seven shutout innings against the Yankees to improve to 6-0 on the season.

Our View:Through six starts, Lee owns a 0.81 ERA with two BB in 47.2 IP. Lee isn't Sandy Koufax, but no one is pitching better right now. Obviously this cannot continue, and it might be a great idea to try and move Lee for a struggling stud to a team that is willing to buy high.
May 3, 2008
Cliff Lee has been named the AL Pitcher of the Month for April, according to the AP. Lee won each of his five starts to earn the first monthly honor of his career. In 37.2 innings, Lee allowed just one home run, 19 hits, four earned runs and two walks. He struck out 32 batters and had an ERA of 0.96 and a WHIP of 0.56.

Our View:In his best outing of the month, Lee hurled a shutout against the Royals on April 24. He is off to a tremendous start for a guy who was not guaranteed a spot in the Indians' rotation through spring training.
April 30, 2008
Cliff Lee ran his record to 5-0 on Wednesday night as he allowed three runs on eight hits over six innings.

Our View:Lee lost his scoreless streak at 27 innings, but if you are bitter about that, well, you aren't smart as he has posted a dynamic 0.96 ERA and 0.56 WHIP over his five starts providing massive value for a wavier-wire pickup.
April 24, 2008
Cliff Lee continued to dazzle on Thursday night as he pitched a complete game shutout against the Royals to improve to 4-0.

Our View:Lee is totally out of his mind right now having allowed one earned run over four starts, not to mention his 29 K, two BB ratio. Who knows what to predict from here other than a regression at some point, and given his recent history now might be time to bail on him and trade him when the trading is good.
April 18, 2008
Cliff Lee continued his dominating start to the season with eight innings of two hit ball to pick up his third victory of the season against zero defeats. Lee has allowed a total of one earned run in 22.2 innings, a 0.40 ERA, and he has 20 K and just two BB on the season.

Our View:Wow. Let us say that again. Wow. Lee simply cannot keep up this pace, but with the way he is pitching now he has already marked himself as the best waiver-wire pick up in the AL in the early going.
April 13, 2008
Cliff Lee was brilliant off the mound for the Cleveland Indians today, earning the win as the Tribe beat up on the A’s, 1-7. Lee pitched through 8 innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits.

Our View:Lee failed to surrender a single walk but garnered EIGHT strikeouts on the day, bringing his ERA to a lowly 0.61 on the season. With just 102 pitches thrown, Lee totaled 67 strikes and ruled the day in a big win for the Indians, bringing Lee to 2-0 on the season.
April 6, 2008
Cliff Lee won his first start of the '08 season on Sunday by retiring 10 of his last 12 batters as Cleveland won a 2-1 battle over the Oakland Athletics. Lee gave up four hits and struck out four in 6.2 innings of work. Just 5-8 over 16 starts during an injury-filled 2007, Lee retired his first seven hitters in Sunday's win. He walked one and only gave up one unearned run in helping the Indians halt a three-game losing streak.
April 6, 2008
Cliff Lee is going to start at Oakland today, and notably hasn't fared well against the Athletics on the road, according to MLB.com. He is 2-1 with a 3.08 against the A's at home over seven career starts, but is 0-1 with a 7.59 ERA over two starts at McAfee Coliseum. He is going to square off against Joe Blanton.
March 27, 2008
Cliff Lee surrendered four runs on six hits (two home runs) over 5.1 innings in a no decision against Tampa Bay on Thursday, with no walks and six strikeouts. Lee lacks consistency, but will be the Indians' fifth starter in the rotation.
March 24, 2008
According to the Plain Dealer, Cliff Lee made it and lefty Aaron Fultz didn't. GM Mark Shapiro told the media outlet on Monday morning that Lee will be the Indians fifth starter. Fultz, who struggled this spring, is expected to be released or designated for assignment. Lee has always shown potential, but until he is more consistent from start-to-start, his value rests in AL-only formats.
March 22, 2008
According to MLB.com, Cliff Lee might have wrapped up the fifth starter's job with his Saturday spring work. The Indians left-hander threw five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five. Lee has always flashed promise, but his inconsistencies have created issues with the Cleveland coaching staff and in the fantasy nation.
March 17, 2008
Cliff Lee was rocked for six runs on 11 hits over four innings of work on Monday in a 6-4 loss to Philadelphia. Lee is battling for a bottom of the rotation job and today's performance set his back a bit.
March 11, 2008
Cliff Lee was solid Tuesday, as he held the Tigers' split squad scoreless over three innings. He allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out three. Lee is in a battle with Jeremy Sowers and Aaron Laffey for the final spot in the Indians rotation, and he made a good case for himself today.
March 4, 2008
Finally over a bout with a sinus infection, Cliff Lee was on the mound for the Indians on Tuesday. "I’ve never been sick for a week and felt that bad," he told the AP. "It feels good to feel good now. I felt like I threw the ball remotely close to where I wanted to, so I’ll take that." Lee's performance was good, as he allowed just one hit, no walks and no runs in his lone inning of action. It looked even better compared to what his competition for the fifth spot in the Indians rotation did: Aaron Laffey allowed three hits, three walks and five earned runs in 2/3 of an inning; Jeremy Sowers gave up four hits, a walk and two earned runs in one inning.
February 25, 2008
Cliff Lee will either end up with the fifth spot in the Indians rotation or he will likely end up back in the minors, this according to MLB.com. When asked if the the loser of the battle end up in the team's bullpen, this is what manager Eric Wedge had to say. "That's not something we're considering right now. I wouldn't rule it out, but we're not considering that right now." Lee is battling Jeremy Sowers and Aaron Laffey for the last spot in the rotation, and the other loser will also likely end up in the minors as well.
