Jhonny Peralta may have to consider a move to third base for next season according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "In my exit meeting with Mark Shapiro and Eric Wedge, they told me they're trying to find another infielder," Peralta said on Monday. "They don't know if it's going to be a second baseman or a third baseman." If it's a second baseman, Asdrubal Cabrera is expected to move to short with Peralta moving to third.

Our View:Peralta excelled after being moved to the cleanup spot. In 84 games as the No. 4 hitter, he hit .300 with 12 home runs, 58 RBI and 63 runs scored. He has been the Indians' shortstop for the past three seasons.

Jhonny Peralta will make his first start at third base on Friday because of the calf injury to Andy Marte, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I can play third base," said Peralta. "I played a half-season there at Buffalo. I don't know how I'll do there [Friday], but I'll do my best."

Our View:Pretty quietly Peralta has hit 22 home runs with 87 RBI, and he has tacked on 42 doubles as well to leave him as one of just 12 shortstops in history with 20 home runs and 40 doubles. This season is the third time in four years that he has hit at least 20 home runs with 70 RBI.
September 17, 2008
Indians' cleanup hitter Jhonny Peralta hit his first home run since August 21st on Wednesday night in the Indians 6-4 win over the Twins. He finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and two runs scored. Seriously.

Our View:Peralta is just 15-for-59 this month and the home run was just his fourth extra base hit. He seems to be losing a little momentum down the stretch. Perhaps Wednesday's blast will turn things around.
September 3, 2008
Jhonny Peralta was the Indians' lone source of scoring in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox at Progressive Field, as he went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Our View:Peralta has collected an RBI in four of his last seven games, and has 77 for the season.
August 23, 2008
Jhonny Peralta may remain in the cleanup spot when Victor Martinez and Travis Hafner return from their rehab assignments, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Manager Eric Wedge said, "We've talked about it briefly. We can work Vic and Hafner around Jhonny. We could hit Hafner and Vic three and four and Jhonny in the fifth spot. One thing we haven't decided is that we're just flat-out going to move him out of the No. 4 spot. I'm still thinking that through. That's a heckuva credit to Jhonny."

Our View:Peralta went into Friday's game against the Rangers hitting .328 (67-for-206) with 22 doubles, 10 homers and 40 RBI since taking over the cleanup spot on June 22. He also currently leads all AL shortstops with 21 homers.
August 22, 2008
Jhonny Peralta only needs three more homers to tie Woodie Held for the career record by an Indians' shortstop with 85, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Peralta has four homers over his last 23 games, and is hitting a homer once every 22.4 at-bats for the season.
August 15, 2008
Jhonny Peralta's X-rays on his hand came back negative, according to the Columbus Dispatch. He was beaned in the hand by Daniel Cabrera of Baltimore.

Our View:The team is yet to disclose Peralta's status for Friday's game.
August 6, 2008
Jhonny Peralta impressively went 5-for-5 with two RBI in Wednesday's 10-7 loss to the Rays at Tropicana Field. He hit two singles, two doubles, and a solo home run. He accounted for 10 total bases in the game.

Our View:He extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and has homered in back-to-back contests. He raised his average a few points higher to .281, and should remain in fantasy lineups while he is hot.
August 5, 2008
Jhonny Peralta socked his 18th homer of the season on Tuesday night. He went 2-for-4 wit a pair of RBI in a loss to the Rays.

Our View:After a slow start, Peralta is quietly turning in a solid offensive season. He'd probably be generating more buzz if most of the rest of the Indians hitters hadn't fallen apart this year.
July 29, 2008
The pitching failed to meet need this evening in Cleveland as the Indians fell 8-5 to the Tigers. Shorstop Jhonny Peralta led the cause for Cleveland, going 2-for-5 with his third triple of the season to total one RBI and two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Peralta is enjoying a great month of July, hitting .313 with five homers, 22 RBIs, and 19 runs scored thus far.
July 22, 2008
Jhonny Peralta extended his hitting streak to 11 games by socking a solo homer on Monday night. He went 1-for-4 with two runs against the Angels. Peralta is 16-for-45 (.356) with five homers and 15 RBI during the streak.

Our View:Peralta is doing his best to make up for not helping fantasy teams much in April, May and June. Feel free to ride the hot streak while it lasts.
July 11, 2008
Jhonny Peralta hit his third home run in five games on Friday of of Rays pitcher Scott Shields. His two out, opposite field blast came in the third inning with a runner on second. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game.

Our View:What can we say? Jhonny loves to bat cleanup. In 18 starts batting fourth in the order, he is hitting .315 with four HRs and 15 RBI.
July 8, 2008
Jhonny Peralta hit a two-run home run in his second consecutive game, this one coming off of Justin Verlander.

Our View:Peralta will likely set career highs for home runs and RBI this season, but if he doesn't get his average up, he does not warrant consistent play.
July 7, 2008
Jhonny Peralta is never going to win the Silver Bat, but his home run on Sunday gave him two last week and 13 on the season.

Our View:Peralta is hitting .250 on the season, an average that will likely stay steady for most of the second half.
June 25, 2008
Jhonny Peralta wasn't in the staring lineup on Wednesday night as he was replaced in the starting lineup by Jorge Valendia who made his first start of the year, according to MLB.com.

Our View:With Asdrubal Cabrera tearing up Triple-A hitting .456 in 14 games, Valendia's days in a Indians uniform are likely to come to an end very soon.
May 28, 2008
Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox. It was his third long ball over the last five games.

Our View:Peralta has hit slightly better since being benched a week ago, but he remains basically a homer-or-nothing guy. His 11 bombs are nice, but his .225 average makes him look like Juan Uribe.
May 22, 2008
Jhonny Peralta returned to the Indians' lineup on Wednesday after being benched for two straight games due to poor play, but he did not benefit from the time off to clear his head, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the rival White Sox.

Our View:Peralta is only hitting .219 over 146 at-bats, and is playing way below his potential.
May 21, 2008
Jhonny Peralta was benched for the second straight game due to lapses in concentration, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He leads the team with eight homers but made two fielding errors on Sunday, and Manager Eric Wedge stated, " He needs to be better than that. It can't happen. He's far enough along in his career where he shouldn't have stretches like that. You're going to have bad days. But you can't lose focus defensively or give away at-bats. You just can't do that. I gave Jhonny the day off Sunday. We had the off-day Monday, and I gave him another day today. So we'll give him a nice little break. He was out here early taking batting practice. I had a chance to talk to him, too. Hopefully, it will help get him back on track. I want him to be more consistent. Jhonny has such great potential to be a very good hitter and a very good player. We've seen signs of it. I just want him to be more consistent."

Our View:Wedge is trying to spark the offense, and Peralta could benefit from the time off to clear his head. He is only hitting .225 over 142 at-bats.
May 15, 2008
Jhonny Peralta went 2-for-3 with one RBI and hit his seventh homer of the season in Thursday's 4-2 win over Oakland. He drew one walk and scored three runs as well.

Our View:That was only his fourth RBI over 13 games in May. That was his first homer in his last nine games as well, and is still only batting .221 for the season.
May 13, 2008
Lineup changes for the Cleveland Indians have hit the field this evening, according to MLB.com. Shorstop Jhonny Peralta has been moved into the 2nd spot in the batting order, a surprising move for a player in the midst of an 0-for-11 slump (sporting just five hits in his last 42 at-bats).

Our View:Manager Eric Wedge has also moved DH Travis Hafner, normally hitting 6th, into the #5 spot in the order. Hafner has just seven hits in his last 39 at-bats with no RBIs over his last eight games. "We're trying to find a combination that works and we're comfortable with and makes sense," said Wedge. The Indians' team batting average, .237, ranks last in the AL. Something had to be done, so we'll see if this brings results.
May 6, 2008
Jhonny Peralta went 1-for-3 with a homer, two runs, two RBI, and a walk against the Yankees on Tuesday. He came into the game 1-for-21 over the last six contests.

Our View:Peralta is just one of many Indians who is struggling at the dish. The homer is nice, but we won't believe he's out of his slump until he can put together some multi-hit outings.
May 4, 2008
Jhonny Peralta had a tough day at the plate in Sunday's 2-0 loss to Kansas City, as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Our View:Peralta has now struck out 25 times over 102 at-bats. He is providing decent power with five homers but only has 10 RBI over 27 games, with a .216 average.
April 25, 2008
Jhonny Peralta hit a three-run homer off Andy Pettitte in the fifth inning on Friday night, and the Cleveland Indians won their fourth straight with a 6-4 victory over New York.

Our View:It was Peralta's fifth home run in the shortstops 20th game of the season.
April 22, 2008
Jhonny Peralta has a good record against Gil Meche, tonight's opposing pitcher for Kansas City, according to MLB.com. He is 8-for-16 with one home run over his career against the Royals' righty.

Our View:Peralta is only hitting 15-for-66 so far, but has three homers, and should be penciled into your lineups tonight.
April 11, 2008
Jhonny Peralta hit his third home run of the season on Friday night on his way to two hits, two runs and two RBI for the Indians. Peralta belongs to the second tier of power options at the shortstop position, and hitting in a loaded Indians lineup certainly means he should have a boatload of chances to knock in runs this season.
April 10, 2008
How many of you were cursing yourself this past weekend for passing on the limited number of quality shortstops in the American League during March drafts, while waiting to use a mid-to-late round selection on Jhonny Peralta? After starting the season in a 1-for-17 hole, the Cleveland infielder arisen. His 3-for-5 performance on Wednesday, a double and home run, makes him 7-for-13 in his last three games. He currently holds a more than respectable .294 batting average. It's worth noting that Peralta is a notoriously slow starter, batting around the Mendoza line in each of his last three seasons. If he can forge forward this April and carry this production into May, it's probably a result of his ears burning after a miserable Week 1.
April 9, 2008
Jhonny Peralta enjoyed a solid day at the plate in Cleveland’s 5-9 loss to the Angels today, going 3-for-5 with his third double of the season and his second home run as well. Peralta finished with just one RBI but pulled two runs scored and raised his batting average to .294 on the season. Of course, he might reflect on the four men left on base, but the outing is one to enjoy despite the shortcomings.
