The Mets placed Oliver Perez on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a sore back, according to the AP. The move was retroactive to June 27. "He has some soreness in his lower back, but nothing wrong with his arm," manager Willie Randolph said.

Oliver Perez said he doubts he'll be ready to start on Tuesday. "It's still sore. I don't feel comfortable," Perez told the New York Daily News after tossing a ball Sunday. Perez was scratched from Sunday's start due to a stiff lower back and likely will be replaced on the mound Tuesday by Jason Vargas.

Mets assistant GM John Ricco said yesterday that Oliver Perez has a minor league option remaining, according to the New York Daily News. That means the Mets can send him to the minors without passing him through waivers first.
