Our View:In his career, Youkilis has gone 13-for-36 with an OBP of .452 and slugging percentage of .556. The first baseman (and third baseman while Mike Lowell is on the DL) has been hot lately and looks to continue that success tonight for fantasy owners.
August 14, 2008
Kevin Youkilis commented on third base, which is where he will be working while Mike Lowell is on the DL, according to the Boston Globe. Youkilis said, "Going to third base is natural to me. I've always loved playing third. It's actually an easier position than first base, and that's something a lot of people don't realize. At third you don't quite have all the moving around as you do at first base. First base is far more physical."

August 7, 2008
Kevin Youkilis is officially listed as having a right hand contusion, according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona said, "A pretty good bruise. The good news is that there's no break. By the time I got out there, it was already turning black. I think the trainers think there's a decent chance he'll play Friday. So that's good news. It sounds like it's a matter of a day or two, as opposed to something that looked like it had a chance to be bad."

Our View:With today's day off, Youkilis will get treatment, both ice and heat, before it's decided whether he'll be ready for Friday's game in Chicago against the White Sox.
August 6, 2008

June 23, 2008
Kevin Youkilis had to leave Monday's game after being struck by a ball under the right eye during in-between innings fielding practice. Brandon Moss replaced him at first.

June 22, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hit two home runs, including the game winner in the 13th inning on Sunday in the Sox 5-3 victory over the Cardinals.

Our View:Youkilis has been an unexpected source of power this season with 13 HR in just 69 games, this after seasons of 13 and 16 dingers the past two seasons. He isn't David Ortiz, but his run production has certainly helped to cover up for the big fellas loss.
June 17, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hopes to return from his back injury on Wednesday, but the team could play it safe and wait to bring him back on Friday after Thursday's off day, according to MLB.com. "He's better tonight," manager Terry Francona said. "Unless he's really good, I don't know that we would do that [on Wednesday] and take chances of setting him back. We'll see. June 13, 2008
Kevin Youkilis is not in the Red Sox starting lineup tonight. The Sox are facing Aaron Harrang and the Reds. With no designated hitter, Manny Ramirez is back in left field and Sean Casey starts at first base.

Our View:Youkilis is having a terrific season and the Red Sox trip to the National League gives manager Terry Francona a reason to rest his versatile infielder. Youk is hitting .301 with 10 home runs, 41 RBI and 42 runs scored, and has played in 64 of Boston's 69 games.
May 30, 2008
Kevin Youkilis will return to the starting lineup tonight against Baltimore, according to the Providence Journal. He is going to bat sixth in the order.

May 26, 2008

Our View:The report mentions that Youkilis said he doesn't remember how he hurt the hand, but he decided he couldn't play after taking batting practice. Youkilis has a successful, albeit small, history against King Felix and is one of the Red Sox to have homered off the Seattle ace.
May 18, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hit his ninth home run of the season on Sunday and he went 3-for-5 and is now hitting .329.

Our View:Youkilis continues to be an amazing mid-round bargain this year as his totals stack up against almost all first basemen in baseball (.329-9-33). Don't count on a 30 homer season for Youkilis, but he just might knock in 100 runs.

Catcher Jason Varitek followed, going 2-for-3 with a double.

Our View:Youkilis is the one to note, now touting 29 RBIs on the season with a .319 AVG, though stranding four runners on base this evening is sure to bother him and fantasy owners.
May 8, 2008
Kevin Youkilis only went 1-for-5 on Thursday but the one hit was a home run, his fifth in the last five games.

Our View:While others were chasing the big names on draft day, those who were patient and selected Youkilis in the middle rounds are reaping the benefits of his hot start to the season.
May 7, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hit two home runs on his way to two runs scored and three RBI for the Sox.

Our View:Youkilis continues to have another solid season for the Red Sox, and in fact, it can be argued that he is the team's MVP so far. Youkilis is hitting .317 with 25 RBI and 23 runs through 33 games, so role him out there with confidence.

Team-mate Mike Lowell said, "No matter where you put him in the order, he gives you good at-bats. He produces, and he's a valuable guy to our team."

May 5, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hit his fourth home run of the season as the Red Sox beat the Tigers 6-3 on Monday night.

Our View:The Boston first baseman came into the game hitless against Detroit starter Jeremy Bonderman, but his two-run blast into the left-field bleachers gave the Sox a comfortable 4-0 lead.
May 4, 2008
Kevin Youkilis hammered the Rays on Sunday. He went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, two runs, and four RBI. As a result, his batting average jumped back up to .307.

Our View:The Greek God of not making errors at first base has seen his average drop sharply over the last 10 games, and it's nice to see Youk post a solid outing. He remains a quality corner infielder in all types of fantasy leagues.
April 27, 2008
The moment passed with no fanfare, but the Boston Red Sox watched 1B Kevin Youkilis surpass a significant milestone for the team in yesterday's 1-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, according to FenwayWest.com.

Our View:Youkilis completed his 1,701 play at the position without an error yesterday, a new franchise record for the Sox and a sign of just how valuable Youk's contributions have been to this team in recent seasons. Youkilis nearly ruined the moment, turning to throw the ball into the crowd until a team member on the bench informed him of the feat. "I didn't even know when I did it, I just go out there to play the game," Youkilis said. "It's not a big deal to me. Hopefully that's it."

Boston 1B Kevin Youkilis is out of the lineup this evening with back stiffness, according to the Boston Globe.

April 17, 2008
Kevin Youkilis contacted manager Terry Francona early this morning and informed him he was ready to play, this according to the Providence Journal. The Sox' third baseman fouled a ball off his left big toe in the sixth inning on Wednesday. X-rays were negative. “He made it very clear to me that if I didn’t play him he would be a pain in the butt,” said the manager. “That’s good news because when a guy has that kind of outlook at 10 in the morning and he’s laughing about it he’s probably feeling a little better than expected.”

Our View:Youkilis and the Sox have been good offensively. The infielder's line of .368/.433/.596 is impressive to say the least. Youk has two home runs, 12 runs scored, 11 RBI and has even attempted (unsuccessfully) a stolen base.
April 17, 2008
Kevin Youkilis injured his foot on Wednesday night and x-rays on his toe were negative so he hopes to play on Thursday, this according to MLB.com. "For me, it's just trying to get healthy and do what's best with this team. It's nothing long term, so that's a good thing. Hopefully I'll be out there."

Our View:The team is already without Mike Lowell and can ill afford to also be without Youkilis. If Youkilis can't go look for Jed Lowrie to take over duties at third base.
April 14, 2008
Kevin Youkilis kept the good times rolling on Monday. He hit two doubles and a homer against the Indians and finished the night with a pair of RBI. Youkilis has driven in nine runs over the past seven contests.

Our View:He's clearly found his happy place.
April 13, 2008
Kevin Youkilis went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI in Sunday's win over the Yankees. He owns seven RBI over the last six games.

Our View:Youkilis is currently 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position this season. He obviously won't keep up that pace, and fantasy owners should get over-excited about his early production.
April 10, 2008
Kevin Youkilis will start at third base today against Detroit, according to the Boston Globe. He will replace Mike Lowell, who is nursing a hand injury. Sean Casey will take his spot at first base.
April 9, 2008
Kevin Youkilis failed to add to his impressive early season swings, going 0-for-5 in Boston’s 2-7 loss to the Detroit Tigers. This is only the third time Youkilis failed to get a hit in a game thus far this season and only the second in which he failed to get on base.
April 9, 2008
Kevin Youkilis is hitless over nine career at-bats against Jeremy Bonderman, today opposing pitcher for Detroit, according to MLB.com. Perhaps this is the day he ends the hitless streak, as he is belting a rock solid .400 over 25 at-bats so far this season.
April 2, 2008
Kevin Youkilis continues to carry a hot stick in the early going for the Red Sox, hitting 2-for-4 in Boston's 5-0 win over Oakland. Youkilis also picked up one RBI and one run scored on the day, a performance that brings his average to .400.

February 10, 2008
Continuing their tradition of not going to arbitration with players in the Theo Epstein era, the Red Sox have agreed to terms with first baseman Kevin Youkilis according to the Boston Globe. Youkilis will make $3 million dollars this year according to the one-year deal. Youkilis was asking for $3.7 million, while the team offered $2.525 million.
January 17, 2008
Kevin Youkilis has filed for salary arbitration, according to the Boston Herald. "We had regular discussions and they've been very amicable," said Joe Bick, Youkilis' Cincinnati-based agent. "It's been a very good exchange of information. Filing is part of the formal process, but we're intent on getting the right deal for Kevin Youkilis." Youkilis, who hit .288 with 16 homers and 83 RBI last year, will receive a nice bump from last year's $424,500 salary.
