Reversing a statement he made just four days ago saying that he wouldn't start him, manager Eric Wedge gave Josh Barfield his first start since mid June on Thursday night, according to the Indians Official Website.

Our View:Barfield has been supplanted by Asdrubal Cabrera who has hit .310 with 22 RBI over his last 46 games including a .536 mark with 10 RBI over his last nine games. Barfield has no value this season and will need to be traded in order to have any for next season.

Indians manager Eric Wedge has no current plans to give Barfield a start at second base, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:Oh, how quickly the mighty fall. The former top prospect for San Diego has not been the same since being traded for Kevin Kouzmanoff prior to last season, and it doesn't look like he will help AL-only owners at all this season unless something unforeseen occurs.

Josh Barfield seems fully recovered from surgery on his left middle finger, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:He isn't expected to return to Cleveland when rosters expand Monday, but could be back not long after. He could platoon with Asdrubal Cabrera at second base.

Josh Barfield, who is recovering from surgery on his left middle finger, is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Akron, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Barfield could platoon with Asdrubal Cabrera at second base when he is fit to return to the Indians.
August 6, 2008
Josh Barfield, who is recovering from surgery on his left finger, could begin a rehab assignment as early as this weekend, according to the Indians.com.

Our View:Barfield began running the bases and taking batting practice this week, and feels he is really close now. He could platoon with Adrubal Cabrera at second base when he returns to Cleveland.

Josh Barfield hit in the cages Monday for the first time since surgery on the middle finger of his right hand, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I took about 10 or 15 swings," Barfield said. "I didn't feel any pain."

Our View:Barfield could be back early next month. Asdrubal Cabrera homered Monday but has otherwise been utterly useless at the plate, so Josh could get a shot at second when he's ready.
July 18, 2008
Josh Barfield, who is recovering from left middle finger surgery, took ground balls for the first time on Thursday and gripped a bat, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:The team indicated that he could return within two or three weeks. He would only be worth consideration in larger AL-only leagues.
July 13, 2008
Josh Barfield has regained the range of motion on his injured left middle finger and will begin his rehab soon, with hopes to play before the year is over, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View:Barfield has only six at-bats on the year and failed to get a hit. He had a very promising rookie season in San Diego before struggling last season, so wait and see how he does when he comes back before thinking of him as an option for your fantasy team.
June 17, 2008
Josh Barfield underwent surgery to repair an injured ligament on the left middle finger on Tuesday and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, according to the AP. He will return to Cleveland on Wednesday and begin therapy on his hand Friday.

Our View:Jamey Carroll will handle the bulk of the starts while Barfield is out, though Asdrubal Cabrera could possibly earn a recall with a good stretch of play at Triple-A Buffalo.
June 12, 2008
Josh Barfield has landed on the 15-day DL, according to the AP. He has been taken down by a left finger sprain. Jorge Velandia has been called up from Triple-A Buffalo to cover his spot on the roster.

Our View:Manager Eric Wedge commented that Asdrubal Cabrera is not likely coming back to cover second base, and did not reveal who would be brought in to replace Barfield.
June 12, 2008
Josh Barfield sustained a sprained middle finger on his right hand while taking a check swing on Tuesday night, according to IndiansConfidential.com.

Our View:Barfield will be re-evaluated today, and may be headed to the DL. Manager Eric Wedge commented that Asdrubal Cabrera is not likely coming back to cover second base, and did not reveal who would be brought in to replace Barfield.

Cleveland infielder Josh Barfield has been withheld from practice and will also be held out of tonight's lineup as the Indians face the Twins due to a sprained middle finger on his left hand, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Barfield has been unable to swing a bat with the aching digit and could be sent to the 15-day disables list as a result
June 10, 2008
Josh Barfield left in the sixth inning on Tuesday night after straining his left middle finger, the AP reports. Jamey Carroll took his place.

Our View:We'll update Barfield's status when more is known, but "strain" makes it sound relatively minor.
June 9, 2008
Josh Barfield has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The team decided to option struggling second baseman Adrubal Cabrera to Buffalo.

Our View:Cabrera held the lowest batting average in the AL among starters with a .184 mark. Barfield was the Indians' starting second baseman in 2007 before Cabrera took his job in August. Barfield only hit .243 last season, but will be an upgrade over Cabrera.
May 19, 2008
With Asdrubal Cabrera hitting a sickly .180, will the Indians finally call up Josh Barfield from the minor leagues? The answer appears to be no for the time being, according to beat writer Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com.

Our View:Barfield could certainly use some work at the plate in regards to his plate discipline, but isn't it a bit odd that when he hit .243 with 14 SB last year he ended up in the minors this year whereas Cabrera is currently performing at a substantially lower level yet he is keeping his job this year?
April 19, 2008
Josh Barfield hit a pair of home runs for Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, his first two home runs of the season.

Our View:Barfield is only hitting .273-2-6 thus far, hardly showing that he deserves to be back in the majors. He has been a streaky hitter in the past and will surely find his way back at some point, but whether the Indians actually plan on giving him a real opportunity remains to be seen.
March 25, 2008
Josh Barfield was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo by the Indians on Tuesday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Asdrubal Cabrera beat out Barfield for the second base job last season, and Barfield's .238 batting average this spring did little to change things. The Indians want him to head to the minors so he can play every day and hopefully get his career back on track.
March 11, 2008
Josh Barfield wants a second chance to play second base, according to ClevelandIndiansBlogs.com. Barfield has lost his starting job to Asdrubal Cabrera and could start the season in the minors, but Josh is not giving up and has worked on his swing and put in tireless hours in the off-season, with his former big-league father Jesse. The results have paid off as Josh is currently hitting .300 with one home run and three RBI over 20 at-bats.
March 8, 2008
Josh Barfield went 1-for-3 today in Cleveland's 9-5 win over the Phillies in Grapefruit League action, hitting a double and scoring two runs. Barfield is battling to stay in the mix for a spot on the major league roster this season, following a disappointing 2007 campaign in which he hit just .243 with three home runs in 420 at-bats. Today's game certainly helps.
