Player Notes

Reversing a statement he made just four days ago saying that he wouldn't start him, manager Eric Wedge gave Josh Barfield his first start since mid June on Thursday night, according to the Indians Official Website.

Our View:Barfield has been supplanted by Asdrubal Cabrera who has hit .310 with 22 RBI over his last 46 games including a .536 mark with 10 RBI over his last nine games. Barfield has no value this season and will need to be traded in order to have any for next season.

Indians manager Eric Wedge has no current plans to give Barfield a start at second base, reports the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:Oh, how quickly the mighty fall. The former top prospect for San Diego has not been the same since being traded for Kevin Kouzmanoff prior to last season, and it doesn't look like he will help AL-only owners at all this season unless something unforeseen occurs.

Josh Barfield seems fully recovered from surgery on his left middle finger, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:He isn't expected to return to Cleveland when rosters expand Monday, but could be back not long after. He could platoon with Asdrubal Cabrera at second base.

Josh Barfield, who is recovering from surgery on his left middle finger, is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Akron, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Barfield could platoon with Asdrubal Cabrera at second base when he is fit to return to the Indians.

Josh Barfield, who is recovering from surgery on his left finger, could begin a rehab assignment as early as this weekend, according to the Indians.com.

Our View:Barfield began running the bases and taking batting practice this week, and feels he is really close now. He could platoon with Adrubal Cabrera at second base when he returns to Cleveland.
