Player Notes
November 19, 2008
Bobby Jenks is likely to remain in Chicago, according to the Hot Stove Report on MLB.com. Pitching coach Don Cooper said, "It doesn't surprise me the Mets or whatever other teams rumored out there might have interest in him. New York is a team with a lot of money to spend, so I see them having interest in a lot of guys. Bobby is a big part of the White Sox right now. He's a valued member of the bullpen for our team. I certainly could see other teams coveting him. But right now, Bobby is our guy. He still has all the ingredients to stay as one of the game's best closers."

Our View:He has saved 111 games over the last three seasons, but has scared some potential suitors away due to a drop in strikeouts over that span. The Sox still view him as one of the steadiest closers in the league, and is likely to be pitching in Chicago in 2009.
November 16, 2008
The Mets have been linked to White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, but one Mets official told the New York Post, "Unless something changes, I would say the chances of us getting Jenks are close to zero. The price is too high and he isn't close to the top of our list."

Our View:Jenks has appeared in many rumors this offseason with several teams in need of a closer.
November 13, 2008
The New York Mets may be interested in acquiring the services of White Sox closer Bobby Jenks, according to New York Newsday.

Our View:No word on if the White Sox would deal their closer, but the Mets are in need of one with Billy Wagner expected to miss the entire year.
October 5, 2008
Bobby Jenks picked up his first save of the post-season on Sunday as the White Sox defeated the Rays 5-3.

Our View:Jenks was throwing hard and meant business from the first pitch despite that terrible looking goatee. Look for him to be in the game late if the score is close as the Sox will need to win the next two games to move on.
September 30, 2008
Bobby Jenks used the 163rd game of the season to pick up his 30th save of the season, the third straight year he has reached that plateau.

Our View:Jenks wasn't the same type of pitcher this year with a K/9 of 5.55, well below his career average of 8.57, but he was still highly effective posting the best ERA of his career at 2.63. Look for continued production from him moving forward.
July 26, 2008
Bobby Jenks earned his 21st save and lowered his ERA to 1.73 with a scoreless ninth inning against the Tigers.

Our View:It was his second save since coming off the DL, and reaffirms that he is healthy and ready to go.
July 23, 2008
Bobby Jenks picked up his first save since coming back from the DL working a scoreless ninth inning against the Rangers. Jenks was set up by Octavio Dotel who earned the win, his fourth of the year.

Our View:Jenks is good to go and obviously should be active in all formats now that he is back on the hill.
July 18, 2008
Bobby Jenks has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. The team already optioned DJ Carrasco to Triple-A Charlotte to make room on the roster. Jenks has recovered from bursitis in his left shoulder.

Our View:Jenks should return to your fantasy lineups for the new fantasy week.
July 17, 2008
The White Sox have optioned reliever DJ Carrasco to Triple-A Charlotte to free up a roster spot for the return of Bobby Jenks, according to the AP.

Our View:Chicago is expected to activate Jenks from the 15-day DL Friday when it begins the second half against the Royals.
July 17, 2008
Bobby Jenks, who is recovering from left scapula bursitis, hurled a scoreless inning in his rehab outing Wednesday at Double-A Birmingham, according to the Chicago Tribune. Jenks threw nine of his 11 pitches for strikes, and his velocity topped out at 94 mph.

Our View:He could return to the White Sox this weekend, barring a setback.
July 14, 2008
Bobby Jenks worked one inning for High-A Winston-Salem on Monday night. He allowed three hits and one run, walked none, and struck out none. Jenks is on the DL due to soreness in his left shoulder/back. He will throw again on Wednesday for Double-A Birmingham.

Our View:The White Sox still play on bringing Bobby back by Friday. We'd prefer to see a bunch of zeros, but we're not too worried by those numbers.
July 13, 2008
Bobby Jenks will go on a minor league rehabilitation over the All-Star break and should be back with the team on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Jenks hasn't struck out as many people as fantasy owners would prefer, but nonetheless he has provided 18 saves on the year.
July 11, 2008
Bobby Jenks is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday according to MLB.com.

Our View:Jenks will not return prior to the All-Star break.
July 8, 2008
The Chicago Tribune reports that White Sox closer Bobby Jenks is headed to the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 30, as a precautionary measure.

Our View:Jenks played catch without any pain Tuesday but said he felt uncomfortable after trying to throw off a mound in the a Kauffman Stadium bullpen. He expressed no qualms about going to the DL and plans to be ready for the second half on July 18.
July 6, 2008
Bobby Jenks may be headed to the 15-day disabled list with a sore back. He threw long toss on Sunday but has yet to throw a side session since reporting the pain a week ago.

Our View:The White Sox will be very careful with Jenks' return. Their bullpen is solid and they may try to play until the All-Star break without their closer.
July 5, 2008
Bobby Jenks had an MRI and CT scan done on his sore left scapula (shoulder) and the results were extremely positive according to MLB.com. "I don't want to take a chance in a situation like that," said manager Jose Guillen. "I don't think it's something to panic about, but it is a concern."

Our View:Jenks could be out of action for a couple of days, though the good news is that he is likely to avoid the DL. Bobby Jenks and Octavio Dotel figure to be the top-2 options to pick up saves until Jenks returns.
July 5, 2008
The White Sox are hoping that closer Bobby Jenks will avoid the DL. He is dealing with a sore left shoulder. "Bobby's a lot better today," manager Ozzie Guillen tells the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday. "He told me he's 90 percent better today. Hopefully we can use him before the off day [Monday]. He's getting a lot of treatment."

Our View:The good news is that we are not talking about Jenks' pitching shoulder, so we'd hope the issue would not hinder his digits much, if at all.
June 26, 2008
Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect ninth inning on Thursday on his way to lowering his ERA to 2.08 while racking up his 17th save of the year.

Our View:Jenks is throwing more strikes than ever and as a result his K totals have plummeted (19 in 30.1 IP). Still, how can you quibble with a guy who has 34 saves, a 2.13 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP over his last 59 appearances dating back to last years All-Star game?
May 28, 2008
Bobby Jenks knocked down his 14th save of the season on Wednesday. He worked a scoreless ninth against the Indians. Jenks has allowed only one run over 11 appearances this month.

Our View:Jenks is hanging tough with the elite closers this year, although he lacks a bit in the strikeout category. Fantasy owners should love what they're seeing.
May 20, 2008
Bobby Jenks picked up his 11th save of the season to help secure the Chicago White Sox 4-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.

Our View:Jenks has been consistent after in early April. His 1.86 ERA and 1.05 WHIP speaks volumes for the once volatile right-hander.
May 17, 2008
Bobby Jenks worked a perfect ninth inning for his 10th save in 12 chances as the White Sox defeated Barry Zito and the Giants on Saturday night.

Our View:Jenks has rounded into form nicely after a slow start. The right-hander has 12 strikeouts in 18 innings, he's allowed five walks and carries 1.96 ERA.
May 10, 2008
Bobby Jenks, sporting a blond goatee (pink on Thursday), allowed a solo home run to rookie Wladimir Balentien in the ninth but still got his seventh save in nine chances.

Our View:Jenks worked his 15 game of the season on Friday. He has a 2-0 record with a 2.51 ERA and 1.30 WHIP to go along with his nine strikeouts and five walks this season.
April 28, 2008
Both closers in Monday afternoon's game between Baltimore and Chicago were unable to hold a lead. The Orioles tied the game in the ninth off Chicago's Bobby Jenks on Melvin Mora's RBI single that scored second baseman Brian Roberts. Jenks allowed one run on two hits and struck out one in his single inning of work.

Our View:Jenks was shooting for his sixth save in what has been a solid April for the hard-throwing right-hander. He came into Monday's game with a 1.69 ERA and has yet to give up a home run on the season.
April 8, 2008
Bobby Jenks currently co-leads the MLB with four saves, but only registered one strikeout and three walks over his four innings pitched. He has notably added a changeup to his arsenal of pitches this season, and that could be affecting his strikeout/walk totals in the early going.
April 7, 2008
As if he wasn't difficult enough to hit, word is now leaking out that Bobby Jenks has added a changeup to his repertoire, this according to MLB.com. "I've been working on it all spring," Jenks said. "I'm not saying it's something to be used every day, but I've shown it and it's in the [scouting] report." Jenks is off to a quick start with four saves, though he has only one K and three BB in the early going. Look for another 35+ save season from the big guy provided he stays healthy.
April 5, 2008
Bobby Jenks closed out the Tigers on Saturday to pick up his third save of the early season for the White Sox. Not many people seem aware of the fact that Jenks may have been the best relief pitcher in the American League last season after the all-star break as he posted a 0.58 WHIP in 29.1 innings. If he keeps pitching like this, we will forgive him for having a blonde fu manchu hanging from his chin.
April 4, 2008
Bobby Jenks closed the door on the Tigers on Friday and earned his second save of the season. The bulky reliever did walk two batters in the ninth, but he escaped without allowing a hit or a run.
April 3, 2008

January 26, 2008
Bobby Jenks and the White Sox have had preliminary talks about a contract extension, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Jenks said on Friday that "during the winter meetings, there were some feelers thrown back and forth, so we'll see." After picking up 40 saves last season, it looks like the Sox want to lock him up for the foreseeable future.
