Player Notes
September 26, 2008
Kyle Davies only allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings in Friday's 8-1 win over the AL Central-leading Twins, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Our View:Davies improves to 9-7 in an impressive win and lowered his ERA to 4.06. The Twins were coming off a three-game sweep over the White Sox.
September 20, 2008
Kyle Davies was in control in Saturday's 5-2 win over the White Sox, as he only issued two earned runs on three hits over seven innings, with one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:Davies has been solid in September, as he is 3-1 over four starts, while allowing two or less earned runs three times over the span. He should remain active in AL-only leagues for the final week of the season.
September 15, 2008
Kyle Davies was spectacular on Monday night when he went eight shutout innings helping the Royals beat the Mariners, 3-0.

Our View:Davies struck out eight in his eight innings and evened his record at 7-7.
September 4, 2008
Kyle Davies permitted the Athletics just a single run in his five innings of work despite needed 101 pitches on the night.

Our View:Davies evened his record at 6-6 with this outing though he is nothing more than that - an average hurler. Davies has allowed more than three earned runs just once in his last 10 starts, but he has gone just 3-5 in that time with only one game of more than four strikeouts. Average indeed.
August 22, 2008
Kyle Davies has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha to take the roster spot of the recently disabled Ron Mahay, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Davies will take the mound as a starter on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers. He has minimal fantasy value.
August 22, 2008
Kyle Davies is a candidate to start in the rotation Saturday, according to the KC Star. But he can only be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to replace a player put on the DL. The DL candidate would likely be Ron Mahay, who has made just one appearance since August 6 due to an injured foot.

Our View:Davies was inconsistent over 14 starts with Kansas City this season, but still had some success and looked good at times. If recalled for Saturday's start, he is worth a look in deeper AL-only leagues.
August 15, 2008
The Royals optioned Kyle Davies to Triple-A Omaha Friday. The team recalled right-hander Jeff Fulchino to replace him on the roster.

Our View:Davies got off to a nice start but eventually came back to earth.
August 14, 2008
Kyle Davies did not throw poorly, but he did allow the White Sox to score three runs on nine hits in his five innings of work in his squad's 9-2 loss.

Our View:Davies has a high ERA and WHIP to go along with a low win total and strikeout rate. Not what fantasy teams are looking for.
August 8, 2008
Kyle Davies walked five batters and gave up three hits leading to three runs over just 2.1 innings in his third loss of the season.

Our View:Davies threw 69 pitches and recorded just seven outs. Davies isn't worth starting unless you are interested in helping your competition to defeat you as he doesn't strike out anyone (4.68 K/9), walks a few too many (4.00 BB/9) and gives up a ton of hits (10.75 H/9).
July 13, 2008
Kyle Davies gave up a two-run home run to rookie catcher Jeff Clement ending his chance to pick up his first victory in his last six starts. Davies allowed three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four in the 4-3 loss to Seattle on Sunday afternoon.

Our View:Pitching against a struggling Seattle offense was Davies chance to get back on track.
July 3, 2008
Kyle Davies was hit hard for the third straight start against Baltimore on Thursday night. The right-hander allowed seven runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out four in the Royals win.

Our View:Davies started strong after being recalled from Omaha, but has quickly returned to his career peripherals. After Thursday's performance, his ERA went from 3.34 to 4.71.
June 28, 2008
Kyle Davies allowed five runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out two in a 5-1 loss to St. Louis on Saturday night.

Our View:It was the second straight start where Davies was leaving his fastball up in the strike zone and hanging his breaking stuff. After four decent starts, the right-hander is regressing back to his career numbers.
June 28, 2008
The Royals have enjoyed the results against the National League thus far this season and hope to keep it going this evening, sending RHP Kyle Davies to the mound against the Cardinals, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Davies is 3-0 with a 3.12 ERA, though his last outing was anything but successful. On Sunday against the San Francisco Giants Davies was hammered for five runs and six hits in just 1 1/3 innings. Davies defeated the Cards two starts ago, holding them to a run and five hits in seven innings in his only other appearance against St. Louis.
June 22, 2008
Kyle Davies lasted only four outs on Sunday thanks to six hits, two walks and five runs allowed to the Giants in the Royals 11-10 victory over the Giants.

Our View:Davies entered the game on Sunday having allowed a single run in each of his first four starts, but his luck ran out on him today. Davis has walked more batters (14) than he has struck out (13), and that is rarely a recipe for success.
June 17, 2008
Kyle Davies had another good outing for the Royals Tuesday, allowing just one run over seven innings to pick up his third win in four starts. He boasts a 1.46 ERA over those four games.

Our View:Davies has 12 strikeouts and 12 walks in 24 2/3 innings, so it might be time to sell high on him.
June 11, 2008
In just his third start this season, Kansas City RHP Kyle Davies pitched well but watched as relief pitching failed to support his cause, falling 11-5 to Texas. Davies pitched six innings, allowing just one run on six hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Davies now carries an ERA of 1.53, taking the no-decision to stay at 2-0 on the season.
June 6, 2008
Kyle Davies had an impressive performance Friday night, holding the Yankees to one run over 6 2/3 innings while allowing seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Our View:Davies has allowed only two runs in his first two starts, but we would suggest you not buy high on him now.
May 31, 2008
Kyle Davies only allowed one run on five hits over five innings in Saturday's 4-2 victory over Cleveland, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:He earned a win in his first start (and appearance) of 2008.
May 31, 2008
The Kansas City Royals have recalled pitcher Kyle Davies from Triple-A Omaha, thus designating catcher Brayan Pena for assignment, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:The 25-year-old Davies will make his first appearance this season, starting Saturday night's match with Cleveland, opposite the Tribe's C.C. Sabathia. Davies made 11 starts for Kansas City last season with a 3-7 record, carrying a 6.66 earned run average over 50 innings. Davies holds a 17-28 career mark in parts of four seasons with the Atlanta Braves and Royals. He carries a 6.24 ERA in 63 career games. Pena was claimed off outright waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
May 31, 2008
The Kansas City Royals will give RHP Kyle Davies his season debut on the mound this evening against the Cleveland Indians, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Davies has spent three years in the majors and carries a disappointing 0-3 record for his career against Cleveland, touting a horrific 12.27 ERA through those starts. That leaves very little room for optimism this evening.
May 29, 2008
Kyle Davies will replace Brett Tomko in the starting rotation beginning on Saturday night, according to MLB.com. "We appreciate everything that Brett's done but, in light of what we're going through right now, obviously the numbers are what they are," manager Trey Hillman said.

Our View:Tomko is 2-6 with a 6.11 ERA leaving little question that this is th best move for the club (moving him to the bullpen). Davies will be recalled from Triple-A where he was 6-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 10 starts. Davies is a marginal pickup in AL Only leagues, while Tomko's value is almost nil.
May 28, 2008
Kyle Davies worked seven strong innings for Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday night. He allowed five hits and one run, walked none, and struck out five. Davies improved to 6-2 with a 2.06 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.

Our View:Davies is a candidate to come up when the Royals need a spot starter or simply grow weary of watching Brett Tomko. Davies hasn't had much success at the major league level, but he's still only 24.
April 23, 2008
Kyle Davies threw seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, allowing only two hits and fanning three.

Our View:Should the Royals need a starter sometime soon, it will be a tough decision between Davies (0.90 ERA) and Jorge de la Rosa (1.15 ERA). Each has at least major league average stuff, so it’s a good problem for the Royals.
March 26, 2008
The Royals optioned Kyle Davies to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday, ending his bid for a rotation spot. John Bale and Brett Tomko are expected to open the year as the No. 4 and No. 5 starters.
March 4, 2008
Kyle Davies made a good case for a rotation spot with his first spring outing Sunday, giving up one run and three hits in three innings. “I was impressed with Kyle getting back in his delivery several times after he got out of it,” manager Trey Hillman said in the Kansas City Star. “He had a real good breaking ball at times but left a couple up. His fastball command had some real good spots of consistency.” Davies is one of at least eight candidates for the last two spots in the Royals rotation.
