The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Josh Bard was forced to exit last night's game after fouling a ball off his right foot in the seventh inning. X-rays came back negative, but his availability for tonight is unclear.

The Red Sox traded Josh Bard and a minor leaguer to San Diego in order to reacquire catcher Doug Mirabelli, according to ESPN. Bard was assigned to be the personal catcher for knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, but he struggled mightily, leading the league with 10 passed balls in seven starts. Bard will back up Mike Piazza in San Diego.

The Boston Herald reports that Josh Bard is likely to be knuckleballer Tim Wakefield's personal catcher this season now that John Flaherty has retired. “I know it’s going to be a challenge to catch Wake and I’m excited to catch Wake," Bard said. "It’s going to be hard. I’m probably going to look like an idiot.”
