Jose Reyes commented on the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to Newsday. The elite shortstop said, "You get to represent your country. That’s the most important thing to me. You just try to be there and try to do whatever they ask me to do."

Our View:He plans to represent the Dominican Republic in the WBC, but it remains to be seen who would be the starting shortstop with Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Tejada also expected to join the team.

The New York Post reports that Jerry Manuel has re-signed with the Mets for two seasons with a club option for a third.

Our View:Manuel went 55-38 after taking over for Willie Randolph on June 16, but the Mets went 6-9 in their final 15 games to fall one game short of the playoffs again.

SI.com reports that Jerry Manuel will return next season to coach the Mets despite the September collapse.

Our View:The Mets were 7-10 over their final 17 games. Mets owner Jeff Wilpon said, "I feel totally different than last year. I think last year we underachieved. This year we overachieved."
September 25, 2008
Jose Reyes was 1-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, a walk and three stolen bases in Thursday night's 7-6 come from behind win over the Cubs "B" team.

Our View:Reyes has 55 steals now and it appears the Mets will be more aggressive on the base paths as they try to squeak out three more wins in their final series against the Marlins this weekend.

GM Omar Minaya will receive a four-year extension from the Mets, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. The deal is all but done, but it is not known when the extension will be announced.

Our View:This move might be questioned should the Mets lose out on a playoff spot again this year, though it looks like they'll squeak in.
