Player Notes
August 20, 2008
Bill Hall did not contribute offensively to the Brewers 5-2 win over Houston on Wednesday. Instead, he went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts, earning him the dreaded golden sombrero.

Our View:For the month of August, Hall has struck out 15 times in 29 at-bats, or 52 percent of the time. That's really all fantasy owners need to know at this point.
July 29, 2008
Bill Hall is out of the lineup tonight for the Milwaukee Brewers as he is hitting just .184 against Chicago Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Our View:Hall has a decent amount of home runs with 14 on the year, but his batting average overall is .230, so he probably should not be on fantasy rosters, but if he is, make the appropriate changes.
July 22, 2008
Bill Hall hit his second game-winning home run in as many nights against the Cardinals on Tuesday. It was his only hit in four at-bats.

Our View:Hall is crushing the ball in July. His average is up to .370 on the month to go with four home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored.
July 11, 2008
Bill Hall filled in as a pinch-hitter on Friday and finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.

Our View:Hall and Russell Branyan seem to be in an unofficial platoon at this point. Hall's terrible June won't be repeated if he only sees lefties.
July 9, 2008
The Brewers suffered the the 8-3 loss this evening against Colorado, though third baseman Bill Hall tried his best to reverse their fortunes. Hall went 2-for-4 at the dish with his 16th double and 12th homer of the season, totaling one RBI and two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Hall hit just .164 through 55 June at-bats, though his six homers with 15 RBIs was of great benefit for fantasy owners and the Brewers alike. Through 24 July at-bats, he's hitting .417 with two homers and nine RBIs, well on pace to exceed those numbers last month.
July 5, 2008
Bill Hall will be in the lineup on Saturday as the Brewers are facing left-hander Paul Maholm, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:Hall, who continues to split time at the hot corner with Russell Branyan, has been hideous versus right handers (.154 with a .510 OPS), but dynamic against lefties (.360/1.057).
June 28, 2008
Regular first baseman Prince Fielder will once again be filling designated hitter duties for Milwaukee in interleague action against Minnesota today, but putting Russell Branyan at first base has surprised local reporters, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:The move also puts Bill Hall at third base, potentially the driving force behind the changes. Hall is 3-for-10 versus Minnesota star Livan Hernandez and will hit seventh in the order.
June 13, 2008
Bill Hall is getting another start at second base in Friday's first game of a three-game series against the American League Twins. Hall is hitting seventh in the batting order.

Our View:Hall hasn't been effective against right-handed pitching but he's in the lineup against Minnesota's Kevin Slowey.
June 11, 2008
Bill Hall will not be in the Brewers lineup on Wednesday as he will be replaced in the starting lineup by Craig Counsell, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:With Rickie Weeks out of action with an injured knee, the Brewers made some lineup changes including putting Hall at second base. However, Hall will only play when the matchup is best, with Counsell and Joe Dillon likely seeing the majority of time.
June 10, 2008
Milwaukee manager Ned Yost was forced to make a few changes to the Brewers starting lineup this evening, according to MLB.com.

Our View:With second baseman Rickie Weeks on the disabled list with a left knee injury, Yost moved right fielder Corey Hart up to the leadoff hole and used Bill Hall at second base for the first time this season. Yost also dropped outfielder Mike Cameron from the two-hole and replaced him with shortstop J.J. Hardy, who had success in that spot last season batting in front of No. 3 hitter Ryan Braun.
June 3, 2008
Bill Hall reportedly wants out of Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Terry Bross (his agent) stated that it would be in the best interest of Hall and the Brewers to deal him to another team where he can play regularly.

Our View:Hall was irritated when the team called up Russell Branyan from Triple-A Nashville on May 24, reducing Hall to a platoon role at third base. Hall has nine homers over 185 at-bats, but holds a low .227 average. You cannot fault the Brewers for bringing in Branyan.
May 27, 2008
Bill Hall has found himself in a platoon at third base because of his inability to hit righties, and he's not happy. "Obviously, they're not happy with me hitting off righties. I'm not happy with me hitting off righties," Hall said. "(But) I'm not the only one that's struggling with right-handed pitching—or pitching in general." Manager Ned Yost didn't mind Hall being upset. "If Bill Hall was happy about it, I wouldn't want him on this team," Yost said.

Our View:Russell Branyan is starting at third tonight with the right-handed Tim Hudson on the mound, and Craig Counsell will also see significant action there in the future.
May 21, 2008
Manager Ned Yost told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that Bill Hall is likely to sit more often against right-handers in favor of Craig Counsell. Hall is ripping lefties to the tune of a .371 average but has managed just a .163 clip against righties.

Our View:Hall has nine homers on the year but is batting just .207, making him a risky play in mixed leagues.
May 13, 2008
Bill Hall powered his ninth ball into the seats on Tuesday for the Brew Crew as he upped his average to .200.

Our View:Nine home runs and 21 RBI are nice, but that .200 average has more than equalized that production. Hall continues to strikeout out at an alarming rate, he has 40 in 39 games, and will need to make better contact to provide solid overall value this season.
April 27, 2008
Bill Hall hit his seventh home run of the year off Florida Taylor Tankersley in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Brewers lost their 11 game against 14 win on Sunday against Florida.

Our View:Hall, who is hitting a soft .223 on the season, has been an all or nothing bat this season, either going long or striking out. Seven of Hall's 21 hits are home runs and he's struck out 26 times in 94 at-bats this season.
April 19, 2008
Bill Hall did most of the heavy lifting on offense for the Brewers today as Milwaukee put the Cincinnati Reds to bed by a score of 5-3. Hall was 2-for-5 at the plate, hitting his third double of the season with three RBIs on the day.
April 18, 2008
Bill Hall went deep for the sixth time on Friday night as he also knocked in his 12th and 13th runs of the season.

Our View:Hall still is hitting a poor .210, and he picked up two more K tonight giving him 20 in 16 games, so until he puts the bat on the ball with more frequency his average figures to be below par.
April 17, 2008
Bill Hall has gone back to wearing contacts after choosing not to wear them the past three years, this according to MLB.com. "Now, when I take my contacts out at night I'm like, 'Why did I ever not wear them?'" Hall said. "Maybe that was my problem last year."

Our View:Ya think? It always amazes us, the stupidity of some players. If you go to the eye doctor and they tell you that you need correction to see better, why not listen to them? Hall has five HR in the early going but he has has 18 K and just one BB, so maybe the contacts aren't helping that much after all.
April 4, 2008
Bill Hall had a career day Friday, belting a pair of homers while driving in six runs in a 13-4 spanking of the Giants. Hall will gain back third base eligibility in the majority of leagues shortly, which will increase his fantasy value.
March 28, 2008
Bill Hall will bat fifth at the beginning of the year for the Brewers, with Corey Hart hitting sixth, manager Ned Yost told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "They're close," said Yost. "Billy has had some really good at-bats in spring training." The spring numbers would seem to favor Hart (.234-3-13) over Hall (.268-0-3, with 24 strikeouts in 64 at-bats), but regardless, Hall should be better this year than he was last year no matter where he hits.
February 28, 2008
Updating an earlier report, not only are Bill Hall and his injured finger OK, he was actually in the Brewers starting lineup on Thursday and had a single in his first AB proving his toughness and determination to make the switch to third base this season. Hall had a disappointing 2007 with only 59 runs, 14 HR and four SB, so look for him to try and build on those numbers in a very deep Brewers lineup this season.
February 28, 2008
Following up on an earlier report that Bill Hall went to a local Phoenix hospital for X-rays; the news from JS Online says the tests were negative on his injured right ring finger. Hall didn't suffer a fracture. The report notes that the early diagnosis is a lacerated nail bed. Hall returned to the stadium and started for the Brewers in their Cactus league opener.
February 28, 2008
Bill Hall injured his right ring finger during team drills on Thursday morning, this according to JS Online. Hall was taken to a Phoenix hospital for x-rays. The report notes that Hall was fielding grounders at third base and a ball took a bad hop and hit his throwing hand. Manager Ned Yost said there was a little blood but said the severity of the injury wouldn't be known until X-rays are taken.
February 26, 2008
Bill Hall had a shaky first day Monday as he tried to get re-acclimated to the infield, but he was much better on Tuesday at the hot corner. "He looks great, no joke," manager Ned Yost said in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "He looks very good, very smooth at third base." Hall is moving back to the infield after spending the 2007 season in center field. Hopefully the move will let him focus more on offense, as his production at the plate dipped big time last year.
January 11, 2008
Now that Mike Cameron is slated to be Milwaukee's starting center fielder, Bill Hall will spend most of his time in 2008 at third base. Hall played exclusively in center field last season, but he's played plenty of third in the past, so the adjustment shouldn't be too difficult.
