Tigers manager Alan Trammell said Omar Infante will enter next season as the starting second baseman, regardless of the status of Fernando Vina, according to the Detroit News.

Carlos Guillen told the Detroit Free Press that Omar Infante is a better second baseman than Fernando Vina and he would prefer to play alongside Infante. It is not clear if Vina will be able to return this season, but this news certainly can't hurt Infante's chances of becoming the permanent second baseman, since Guillen is rapidly becoming the team's best player.

Omar Infante made his first regular season start in center field on Friday. Despite playing in Minnesota's tricky Metrodome, he caught all five balls that came his way. Infante will likely get the call again tonight with Craig Monroe and Brandon Inge injured and Alex Sanchez in Miami with his wife.

Omar Infante injured his left elbow yesterday, according to the Detroit News. "He hyperextended his (left) elbow a little bit," said manager Alan Trammell. "I think he’s going to be fine.”
