John Van Benschoten failed as a starter in the Pirates' rotation this season, so he has been moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Indianapolis, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. GM Neal Huntington said, "We want to give him a chance to show what he can do in short bursts."

Our View:It makes sense for Van Benschoten to move, as he offered no value as a starter this season, and the Pirates could use him as an option in an often overworked bullpen.

John Van Benschoten was rocked for seven earned runs over a mere 1.2 innings in his start against the Padres Saturday, and could be sent back down to the minors, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Manager John Russell said, "He didn't throw well. Not a lot to say."

Our View:His dreadful outing forced an already over-worked bullpen to throw 7.1 innings. With that said, the source indicates that the Pirates could call up a reliever today from Triple-A Indianapolis, likely Marino Salas again. Jeff Karstens is a candidate to take Van Benschoten's next turn in the rotation if sent down.

John Van Benschoten had a horrid start for the Pirates, throwing just 1.2 innings and giving up seven earned runs on six hits and four walks.

Our View:Van Benschoten now carries an ERA of 10.48 and probably should not be in the major leagues, much less fantasy teams.

Updating an earlier report, turning rumor into fact, the Pirates have announced RHP John Van Benschoten has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and will start tonight against the Astros in Houston, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:Van Benschoten is 1-2 with a 9.77 ERA, leaving his fantasy value rather low.

The team is yet to officially announce it, but John Van Benschoten remains in line to be recalled from the minors to start on Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:He will only hold fantasy value in larger NL-only leagues, as he allowed 17 earned runs, 25 hits, and 12 walks over 15.2 innings of action with the Pirates this season prior to his demotion to Triple-A Indianapolis.
