Erik Bedard (shoulder surgery) has started to play catch but isn't expected to throw off a mound until after camp ends, according to the Everett Daily Herald.

Our View:Bedard is still expected to be out of MLB action until either May or June. He does have the talent to produce once he's back in action, but draft him knowing that he could be out for an extended period of time.

Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports that Erik Bedard's one-year deal with the Mariners could pay him more than the $7.5 million he made last season if he reaches certain incentives.

Our View:He is getting just $1.5 million guaranteed, so expect him to be highly motivated in 2010. He isn't expected to be ready to take the field until May or June.

According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Erik Bedard told an Ontario newspaper that he has officially agreed to sign a one-year, incentive-laden $1.5 million deal with the Mariners.

Our View:The deal, as expected, is very much dependent on him passing a physical. Bedard, who isn't slated to pitch until May at the earliest, seemed pleased by the deal. "I'm really happy. It was my first choice to return to Seattle. I think the team will be very good this season, I like the direction of the team and the manager. It is a last-minute deal, but it was worth the wait." He will be a late-round, low risk/high reward type pitcher in fantasy drafts this spring and is definitely worth a look as long as you don't overpay.

The Seattle Times has confirmed that the Mariners and Erik Bedard are nearing an agreement on a one-year contract.

Our View:The deal would pay him $1.5 million and include "considerable" performance incentives. Coming off of shoulder surgery, he is not expected to be ready to pitch until May at the earliest.

The Mariners and Erik Bedard (shoulder) appear to be closing in on a one-year deal, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The deal will apparently include a $1.5 million base salary with a whole bunch of incentives. Bedard is still recovering from shoulder surgery and should miss the first few months of the season. He's made just 30 combined starts in his two seasons with Seattle, though he has looked pretty good whenever he's been able to take the mound.

The Mariners may be interested in re-signing Erik Bedard (shoulder), according to MLB.com.

Our View:He'd obviously come at a significantly lower price tag than the last deal he signed, due to the rash of injuries he's suffered ever since coming over from Baltimore. He's expected to be out the first three or four months of the season while recovering from shoulder surgery but could be back by June or July, and thus an incentive-laden contract could make sense.

An undisclosed scout does not believe that anyone has an idea when Erik Bedard may be ready to pitch, according to Jon Morosi's (FOX Sports) twitter page.

Our View:There is speculation that the former ace hurler may not be ready to pitch for another 3-5 months. He is recovering from shoulder surgery, and will be a risky fantasy prospect for the 2010 campaign.

According to Ryan Divish on Twitter, Erik Bedard may not be ready to pitch for another three-to-five months.

Our View:This severely hurts his chances of getting a deal this offseason. There hasn't been a lot of interest anyway, but teams will be scared off by the fact that he may not be able to pitch until May. And that's if he doesn't have any setbacks, which would be rare. The surgery he had last year on his shoulder requires 10-12 months of recovery time and he's currently only on month seven.

The Royals are considering signing free agent pitcher Erik Bedard, according to the Kansas City Star's Sam Mellinger.

Our View:Of course, they cannot decide whether or not to commit a decent amount of money to a player so injury prone, but when you are as cursed as the Royals have been, the question really should be "why not?" He obviously isn't commanding money that will break the bank, and if the Royals land him and he's healthy, they would suddenly have one of the more formidable one-two punches in the American League. Stay tuned.
