Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that the Braves have sent Casey Kotchman to the Red Sox for Adam LaRoche.

Our View:Why the Red Sox need another first baseman is the question of the hour. LaRoche became expendable when they acquired Victor Martinez from the Indians, so why Kotchman isn't considered expendable by the same right makes no sense. Regardless, if he stays in Boston locked up behind Victor Martinez and Kevin Youkilis, his fantasy value will take a huge hit.

Casey Kotchman had a huge day on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI, as the Braves pummeled the Brewers 10-2 in Milwaukee.

Our View:He also hit his fifth home run of the season. Kotchman hasn't been great in Atlanta, but is a solid option in NL-only leagues at first base or utility.
July 8, 2009
Casey Kotchman homered for the second time this month on Wednesday, after hitting none in June, as the Braves beat the Cubs 4-1 to take two out of three at Wrigley.

Our View:Kotchman has only five home runs in 114 games for the Braves since coming to Atlanta in the Mark Teixeira trade. He currently shouldn't be owned in any format except for very deep NL-only or mixed leagues.

The Miami Herald is reporting that the Braves have activated first baseman Casey Kotchman from the 15-day DL. In a corresponding move, the team optioned infielder Barbaro Canizares to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Our View:Kotchman had been impressive before his injury, and fantasy owners need to hope he remains so upon his return to the Braves' lineup. Fantasy owners should feel free to activate Kotchman, as he is expected to return to the lineup as soon as tonight.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Braves' first baseman Casey Kotchman is set to begin his rehab assignment this weekend. Kotchman will play Saturday and Sunday for Triple-A Gwinnett, and if all goes well he is expected to be activated in time for Tuesday's game.

Our View:Kotchman sounds like he is pretty close to being ready, and assuming he makes it through the weekend without reinjuring himself he should return Tuesday. Fantasy owners should be ready to activate him, and check back to make sure he will be ready to go.
