Player Notes
March 3, 2010
Casey Kotchman went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Giants in exhibition action. Both of his knocks were singles.

Our View:Kotchman is off to a nice start with Seattle, but his fantasy stock will be hurt by serving in a platoon role at first base with Ryan Garko.
February 3, 2010
The Mariners and Casey Kotchman have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal, MLB.com's Jim Street.

Our View:No word yet on the value of the contract, but you can expect that it was around $3.5 million. Expect Kotchman to platoon at first base with Ryan Garko, with Kotchman facing righties and Garko going against lefties for the most part.
January 7, 2010
The Mariners have officially claimed Casey Kotchman from the Red Sox, according to Shannon Drayer's twitter page. Bill Hall is part of the package going to Boston in exchange.

Our View:Kotchman is good defensively and could push for regular playing time at first base in Seattle, but is a career .269 hitter in the bigs, and will be playing his home games at pitcher-friendly Safeco.
January 5, 2010
Casey Kotchman is scheduled to take a physical with the Mariners tomorrow, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:Kotchman appears headed to Seattle in exchange for Bill Hall and a to-be-determined minor leaguer, though it may not be until Thursday or Friday that the deal is officially announced.
January 5, 2010
The Red Sox and Mariners are close to a deal that would send Casey Kotchman to Seattle in exchange for a major league role player, a minor league player and cash, according to WEEI.com.

Our View:Boston's recent signing of third baseman Adrian Beltre will push Kevin Youkilis to first base more often than not, and with David Ortiz still manning up the designated hitter spot, there simply isn't enough room on Boston's roster for Kotchman to get many at-bats. A move to Seattle would certainly increase Kotchman's chance at playing time and could give him borderline fantasy relevance.
