Player Notes
July 2, 2008
The Twins put the 7-0 whooping on the Tigers today, led by the bat of catcher Joe Mauer , going 2-for-4 at the plate with one walk, two RBIs, and one run scored on the day.

Our View:Mauer has been as hot at the plate as expected, coming off a June performance hitting .341 on the month with 14 walks versus just seven strikeouts.
July 1, 2008
Joe Mauer will sit in favor of Mike Redmond at catcher against the Tigers tonight, according to the Star Tribune. Redmond is penciled in to bat third in the order.

Our View:Mauer went 2-for-4 with two RBI on Monday against Detroit, but manager Ron Gardenhire felt he could use a game off. Adjust your lineups accordingly.

Local reporters have sent in news on the starting lineup and it appears the Twins will welcome catcher Joe Mauer back into action but Alexi Casilla won't be in the starting lineup while the team is giving Michael Cuddyer a day off, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Our View:The outfield will feature Carlos Gomez in center and hitting leadoff, flanked by Jason Kubel in right and Delmon Young in left, hitting sixth and seventh respectively. Craig Monroe will be at DH with Brian Buscher at third and Brendan Harris at short.

Joe Mauer is in the Twins' lineup today against the Nationals, according to the Star Tribune. He was not given a day off following last night's game.

Our View:He played today as the team may opt to go with Mike Redmond on Friday against lefty Randy Johnson. The Twins are also going for a sweep against Washington today, which would be their first since sweeping Kansas City May 27-29.

According to SI.com, Joe Mauer, who hit his first two home runs of the season this week, has changed his batting strategy. "Not anything too drastic, but I'm trying a couple of things to help, just taking a chance on some pitches," the Twins' catcher said Thursday.

Our View:The report suggested that Mauer is essentially going to guess more and take some chances. He said he will look for a particular pitch rather than attacking the entire hitting zone. Both of Mauer's homers came on inside pitches, the latest wasn't even close to being a strike.
