Player Notes
December 22, 2009
Garrett Atkins has officially signed with the Orioles, according to the Associated Press. He inked a one-year deal worth $4.5MM.

Our View:The Orioles have faith the third baseman can bounce back following a disappointing 2009 campaign. The 30-year-old vet will be shooting for a strong season, in a bid to raise his market value for 2011.
December 21, 2009
Garrett Atkins will undergo a physical in Baltimore on Tuesday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Atkins is fully expected to pass, and when he does, his signing with the Orioles will be officially announced. He'll be starting at the hot corner when the season opens in 2010, though fantasy owners should be careful not to expect the lofty numbers of his past when he was in Colorado.
December 17, 2009
Garrett Atkins' one-year deal with the Orioles is worth $4 million in base salary with another possible $1 million in incentives, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:That's not bad for a guy whose numbers have steadily declined since 2006, reaching an awful low last year when he hit .226. Atkins has also fared far worse away from Coors Field over his career and is worth no more than a late-round flier for 2010 drafts.
December 16, 2009
Garrett Atkins has reportedly reached a one-year deal with the Orioles, according to the Baltimore Sun. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View:The Orioles were in the market for a third baseman, and Atkins should hold the starting gig for 2010. He is coming off a down year in Colorado, and will be aiming to bounce back and improve his market value for 2011.
December 12, 2009
The Rockies will not tender a contract to Garrett Atkins, making the third baseman a free agent, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Atkins has seen a steady decline in his production each of the past three seasons, reaching a major low in 2009 when he hit just .226 with nine home runs. Add in the fact that he's a career .327 at Coors Field who has hit just .252 on the road, and you can't expect any team to dole out big money to this veteran who just turned 30 today.
