Player Notes
August 10, 2008
Ryan Madson pitched the ninth inning and picked up his first save in Philadelphia's 6-3 win over Pittsburgh.

Our View:Lidge was unavailable with a "sluggish" shoulder, so Madson pitched a perfect ninth. Keep an eye on Lidge's situation, as it looks like Madson would take his place if he has to be disabled.
April 10, 2008
Ryan Madson has been suffering from shoulder soreness over the last five days, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. The relief pitcher commented that the soreness wasn't in the same area as the shoulder strain that caused him to miss the last two months of last season, and he added, "It feels 100 percent today." He threw on the side yesterday under the supervision of pitching coach Rich Dubee, and noted that the shoulder has improved each day since his last appearance. Madson is an important part of the Phillies' bullpen, and hopefully he can return to action soon.
March 13, 2008
Ryan Madson allowed just one run over three innings in a 6-1 loss to Cincinnati on Wednesday. The Philadelphia Inquirer suggests that despite the Phillies weakness at the fifth starter's spot, Madson is not a candidate for the job. He was assigned the Wednesday start because the team did not want Cole Hamels facing the Reds when he could oppose them in the second week of the regular season. Madson was groomed as a starter in the minors and would someday like to return to that role, but for now he will continue to work out of the bullpen.
January 18, 2008
Ryan Madson agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million contract with the Phillies Thursday, avoiding arbitration. Madson posted a 3.05 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 38 games with Philadelphia last year. He missed most of the second half with a strained shoulder.
September 26, 2007
Ryan Madson said he could be ready to pitch in two weeks, meaning he could pitch in the playoffs if the Phils make it and are still alive. Madson has not appeared in a game since July 29 because of a strained right shoulder, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
