The Arizona Republic reports that Casey Fossum needs to pitch better in order to avoid losing his spot in the rotation. Fossum hasn't won since July 1 and has been hammered for 17 earned runs over his last two starts. "Maybe my surgery [from last September] and all this hard work I've been doing is catching up with me," Fossum said. "But I also think it's just me out there trying to overthrow."

Casey Fossum made a mechanical adjustment at the behest of his father over the All-Star break and believes that's why he's pitched better in his last two starts, according to the Arizona Republic. The AP reports that Casey Fossum will be activated from the DL to make his season debut with a start on Friday night. Steve Sparks was supposed to start that game, but he'll be moved back to Sunday to start in place of Elmer Dessens, who is being moved to the bullpen. Fossum has been sidelined since spring training with a sore shoulder.

Casey Fossum had his strongest rehab outing so far for Triple-A Tucson on Friday night, according to the AP. He threw 95 pitches, allowed five hits, struck out eight and walked none in six scoreless innings. Fossum traveled to Phoenix on Saturday to be examined by team doctors, and will throw a side session at Bank One Ballpark on Sunday or Monday. He could be activated after his next rehab start on Wednesday.
